TABLE NO. 4. SALARIES OF TEACHERS. The following table of the salaries now received by the masters and mistresses of aided schools, when compared with those published from time to time in former reports of the Department, will show the marked improvement which has taken place of late years in the position and prospects of certificated teachers : * Of these, 170 ranged from 300l. to 4007.; 39 from 400l. to 500l.; 10 from 500l. tc 600l.; 1 from 600l. to 6507.; and 1 from 700l. to 750/. † The figures for 1874 refer to the whole of the certificated teachers, both principal and assistant. There were not 600 of the latter in our schools at that period; at present there are more than 5,000. TABLE No. 5.
