ABERDEEN (BURGH). Grant for year ended 31st March 1896 Allocation of grant: 1,5507. 19s. 10d. Allocation of grant :—' These grants are conditional upon the provision of one free place for each 151. of grant. Grants of 21., 4., or 61. on account of scholars obtaining one or more leaving certificates of the lower, higher, or honours grade respectively (except arithmetic certificates). BANFF COUNTY. Standard scholars at Lamlash Public School, receiving secondary instruction The remainder to go to Rothesay Academy, on condition that free places are provided for ex-VI.Standard scholars from Arran and Cumbrae and Rothesay Public School Grant for year ended 31st March 1896 = 654l. 78. 3d. Allocation of grant :— To each of 8 selected State-aided schools, fulfilling certain conditions, for the promotion of secondary education :- 1. A sum of 251. 2. Capitation grants of 11. on the average attendance of ex-VI. Standard scholars (not to exceed 501. in all in the case of any one school). 3. Grants on account of individual scholars under one of following (a.) 11. for a pass in the third stage of a secondary subject. (c.) 41. for obtaining one or more higher grade leaving certifi- (d.) 51. for obtaining one or more honours grade leaving certificates. For bursaries : Two 101. bursaries for each parish not participating in the above One 101. bursary for part of the parish of Wick (Landward). CLACKMANNAN COUNTY. Grant for year ended 31st March 1896 = 6037. 138. 7d. Scheme approved on 23rd October 1895. Allocation of grant :— 1. Grants to Secondary Departments in Alloa (Burgh) Tillicoultry upon certain conditions as to curriculum and efficiency. 2. For 101. bursaries, tenable for three years, at Dollar Institution, open for competition to scholars attending State-aided schools who pass an examination of the standard of the lower grade leaving certificate 901. 3. Grants of 251. each to the school boards of Clackmannan and Alloa (Landward) 501. These grants will be paid as capitation grants of 11. for each scholar passing Standard VI. and three stages of a secondary specific subject, and 31. for each scholar who remains one year at school after so passing. Any part of the grant not so earned may be applied for scholarships at higher class schools, or paid over to the school board of Alloa (Burgh) towards the support of their secondary department. 4. The balance of the grant, after meeting the expenses of the Committee, to be distributed as a capitation grant to State-aided schools in the county in respect of scholars who obtain the merit certificate 631. 138. 7d. DUMBARTON COUNTY. Grant for year ended 31st March 1896 = 1,3987. 16s. 11d. Capitation grants of 11. to certain public and State-aided schools on average attendance of ex-VI. Standard scholars, resident in the county, for promotion of secondary education. Scholarships, 24 at 57., tenable for two years; these scholarships are to be offered for competition amongst ex-VI. Standard scholars who are not in attendance at the schools named above, and will be tenable at these schools or other higher class schools approved by the Committee. DUMFRIES COUNTY. = Grant for year ended 31st March 1896 Allocation of grant : - 1,1071. 78. 11d. Direct subsidies to certain selected schools, on condition that free education is given to those holding bursaries and free scholarships under the scheme (except at Moffat and Sanquhar), viz. :— (b.) Bursaries of 101. tenable for three years by children who have passed Standard V. and reside more than 4 miles from any of the selected schools (except Moffat and Sanquhar), an equal number of free scholarships being provided at these schools for children who live less than 4 miles distant. DUNDEE BURGH. Grant for year ended 31st March 1896 = 2,0731. 138. 6d. Allocation of grant : Grants to higher class school, viz., Dundee High School : (a.) A direct subsidy of 2001. (b.) A sum of 1501. conditional upon establishment of at least 30 free scholarships in the secondary department. Grant to school board :— The available balance of the grant to be paid to the school board, for promoting secondary education in their higher departments, conditional upon the establishment of 120 free scholarships.
