THE Editor of this work has taken the liberty of making some verbal alterations in that part of it, which consists of translated passages out of Ancient Irish Writers, in such a manner, as, without affecting the sense, will render it, he hopes, more pleasing to the modern ear. In his Life of the illustrious Prelate, he has carefully noted every circumstance, which, though omitted by one Biographer, has been recorded by another; and he trusts it will be found the most correct and satisfactory hitherto published. No notice, however, has been taken of his Grace's posthumous writings, because, he feared, the necessary remarks concerning them, would have swelled the Memoir so considerably, as to have rendered it too large to prefix to any other work.
