INTOLERANCE

THE

DISGRACE OF CHRISTIANS,

&c. &c.

THE truth of the Gospel is supported by a great variety of proofs, which have been collected and displayed by the zeal and industry of Christians in tracts innumerable, written in almost every form and language, and frequently with great force of reasoning. No sort of evidence, or attestation, is wanting, which the examiner of a religion claiming to be a revelation from God could reasonably expect; on D 2

the contrary, such is the multitude of proofs of the divine mission of Jesus, that they may rather be thought accumulated to superfluity, than unsatisfactory from their deficience.

On a rapid and summary view of these proofs, the inquirer finds the characters of truth apparent in the doctrines and precepts of Jesus; in his own conduct, and in that of his early disciples; and in the external evidence of miracles and prophecies which attest his authority. In each of these respects, his claim to be received as a messenger from heaven has an adequate and appropriate support; and the whole connected chain of these proofs, combined with the effect produced by them during the life of Jesus and in the apostolic age, may well be acknowledged by the unprejudiced inquirer to be completely satisfactory.
