Thursday Morning.

T The Sentences.

The day of the Lord cometh as a thief in the night. Therefore let us not sleep as do others, but let us watch and be sober, putting on the breast-plate of faith and love, and for an helmet the hope of salvation.

The Lord is at hand; be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.

Let us confess our sins to Almighty God.

O Heavenly Father, full of mercy and compassion, who hast thus far brought us safe in our bodies and our substance through this week; We confess, with shame, that many good resolutions with which we began it have come to nought, that many pious intentions have been unfulfilled, and that we have all come short of our professions. Our goodness has been as the morning cloud, and like the early dew it has gone away. Give us grace now, O Lord, to cast aside every weight, and looking back in

sorrow to what is gone, to use greater diligence in what remains; that seeing in the past the fruits of our own weakness, we may be brought to seek help of thee; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

Our Father, who art in heaven

Let us pray.

The Collect for the Day.

I.

O Almighty God, Maker of all things, who at the beginning didst divide the light from the darkness; We, the creatures of thy hands, would humbly and heartily thank thee for having brought us safe through the darkness of the night to behold the light of another day; and we beseech thee to keep us through the same under thy merciful protection. Grant to us, as children of light, to have no fellowship with the

unfruitful works of darkness; but give us thy Word to be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our paths, and lead us onward in the way of light and life everlasting; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

II.

Blessed Lord, who hast given us a new commandment that we should love one another, and hast taught us that where envy and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work; Give unto us thy servants grace, that we may be kindly affectioned one to another, and that there may be no schism in this household. away from us all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and evil speaking, with all malice; and grant, that, in honour preferring one another, we may walk in love, even as thou Lord hast loved us, and given thyself to die for our sins. Amen.

1 Prayers for SPECIAL OCCASIONS.

III.

Put

O Lord, our Heavenly Father, we humbly beg thy blessing this day upon all our honest designs and undertakings. Help us to watch and pray against the manifold temptations which be

set us; enlighten the eyes of our understanding ; quicken the sense of our conscience; so that in all our service of body and soul we may remember that we are thy servants, appointed to do thy work. Grant that we may not live to please ourselves by the indulgence of any evil habit or inclination, but that our constant aim may be to glorify thee in all our thoughts and words and actions. Into thy hands do we now commit ourselves, and all our affairs, humbly beseeching thee so to bless, direct and guide us, that we may at last obtain the reward of good and faithful servants; through the merits and mediation of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with us all this day and evermore. Amen.

Thursday Evening.

T The Sentences.

The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart, and will save such as be of an humble spirit.

The Lord delivereth the souls of his servants, and all they that put their trust in him shall not be destitute.

The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers.

Mark the perfect man and behold the upright, for the end of that man is peace.

Let us confess our sins to Almighty God.

Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, against whom we have rebelled, and from whom we have often strayed away, wasting our precious substance of time and opportunity in unprofitable living; We would arise and come to thee as a forgiving Father, and confess that we have sinned against thee, and are not worthy to be called thy children. O, most kind and merciful Father, though we are still a great way off, have compassion on us, and come out in love to meet us; clothe us, who are soiled and stained by sin, in the garment of righteousness which is
