J. M Creery, Printer, Black-Horse-Court, Fleet Street, London,

A POEM;

WITH TALES,

AND

OTHER POETICAL COMPOSITIONS.

BY JOHN PENWARNE.

Sweet Solitude! from Life's tumultuous scenes
To thee I steal away to tread the grove,
Or muse upon the bank beside the brook ;
And oft by Contemplation led at eve,
When Nature sleeps, explore the haunted tow'r
And now pursue
My lonely way along the craggy steep
That frowns upon the wildering world of waves,
And feasting on the luxury of thought,
Best pleas'd at this still hour, I meditate
On him the great ineffable sublime,
And mark his grandeur midst the mighty shade.

PETER PINDAR.
