The New Commiffion of the Governor of the Province of QUEBECK.

GEORGE the THIRD, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c. T. our trusty and well-beloved Guy Carleton, Efquire, greeting.

WHEREAS we did by our letters patent under our great

feal of Great Britain, bearing date at Westminster the twelfth day of April, in the eighth year of our reign, conftiute and appoint you to be our captain general and governor En chief in and over our province of Quebec in America, bounded on the Labrador coaft by the river St. John, and from thence by a line drawn from the head of that river through the lake St. John to the fouth-eaft of lake Nipiffin, from whence the faid line, croffing the river St. Lawrence and lake Champlain in forty-five degrees of northern latitude, paffes along the high lands, which divide the rivers that empty themselves into the faid river St. Lawrence, from those which fall into the fea, and alfo along the north coast of the bay des Chaleurs, and the coaft of the gulph of St. Lawrence to cape Rozieres, and from thence croffing the mouth of the river St. Lawrence by the weft end of the island of Anticofti, terminates at the aforefaid river St. John, together with all the rights, members, and appurtenances whatfoever thereunto belonging, for and during our will and pleasure, as by the faid recited letters patent, relation being thereunto had, may more fully and at large appear. whereas we did alfo by our letters patent under our great feal of Great Britain, bearing date at Westminster, the

vernor and commander in chief in and over our island of Newfoundland, and all the coaft of Labrador, from the entrance of Hudson's ftreights to the river St. John, which discharges itself into the fea nearly oppofite the weft end of the ifland of Anticofti, including that ifland, with any other fmall iflands on the faid coaft of Labrador, and also the iflands of Madelaine in the gulph of St. Lawrence, as also of all our forts and garrifons erected and established in our faid iflands of Newfoundland, Anticofti, and Madelaine, or on the coaft of Labrador within the limits aforefaid, for and during our will and pleasure, as by the faid letters patent, relation being thereunto had, may more fully and at large apRevocation pear. Now know you, that we have revoked and determined, and by these presents revoke and determine, the said recited letters patent granted to you, the faid Guy Carleton, as aforefaid, and every claufe, article, and thing therein contained; and that we have alfo revoked and determined, and do by these presents revoke and determine fo much and fuch part of the faid recited letters patent granted to Molineux Shuldham, efq. as aforefaid, as relates to the coast of Labrador, including the island of Anticofti, with any other fmall islands on the faid coaft of Labrador, and every claufe, article, and thing therein contained, so far as the fame relates to the faid coaft of Labrador, and the islands herein before Commiffion recited. And further know you, that we repofing efpecial to be capt. truft and confidence in the prudence, courage, and loyalty of gov.in chief you, the faid Guy Carleton, of our efpecial grace, certain of the pro- knowledge, and mere motion, have thought fit to constitute

St. Lawrence, from those which fall into the fea, to a point in forty-five degrees of northern latitude, on the eastern bank of the river Connecticut; keeping the fame latitude directly weft through the lake Champlain, until in the fame latitude it meets with the river St. Lawrence, from thence up the eaftern bank of the faid river to the lake Ontario, thence through the lake Ontario, and the river, commonly called Niagara, and thence along by the eastern and fouth eastern bank of lake Erie, following the faid bank, until the fame fhall be inter

fected by the northern boundary granted by the charter of the province of Penfylvania, in cafe the fame fhall be so interfected, and from thence along the faid northern and western boundaries of the faid province, until the faid western boundary ftrikes the Ohio; but, in cafe the faid bank of the faid lake fhall not be found to be fo interfected, then following the faid bank, until it 'fhall arrive at the point of the faid bank, which shall be neareft to the north-western angle of the faid province of Pensylvania, and thence by a right line to the faid north-western angle of the faid province, and thence along the western boundary of the faid province, until it ftrikes the river Ohio, and along the bank of the faid river weftward to the banks of Miffiffippi, and northward along the eastern bank of the faid river to the fouthern boundary of the territory granted to the merchants adventurers of England. trading to Hudfon's Bay; and also all fuch territories, iflands, and countries, which have, fince the tenth of February, 1763, been made part of the government of Newfoundland, as aforefaid, together with all the rights, members, and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging.

And our will and pleafure is, that you, the faid Guy Oaths to be Carleton, do, after the publication of these our letters patent, in fuch manner and form as has been accustomed to be used on like occafions, in the first place take the oaths appointed to be taken by an act paffed in the first year of the reign of King George the Firft, intituled, " An act for the Thofe apfurther fecurity of his Majefty's perfon and government, and the fucceffion of the crown in the heirs of the late princefs Sophia, being proteftants, and for extinguishing the hopes of the pretended prince of Wales, and his open and fecret abettors; and by an act paffed
