It is the aim of the following pages to summarize the teaching of Holy Scripture on the subject, and to point out that the popular notions not only have no support in its sacred pages, but are a positive contradiction of its teaching. And that the Church to which Christ gave His promises occupies a posi tion in the maintenance and propagation of the truth, and so in the work Of the world's salvation, which is demanding the serious reconsideration of all Protestant people.

In the historical chapters, the reasons assigned by the several Denominations for their separations are given as far as possible, in their own language. And it is pointed out that almost without exception those reasons have been abandoned, at least in practice.
