May the same Holy Spirit that sustained them support and animate us, who are surrounded by similar dangers, assailed by like temptations, and subject to the same passions. May their examples teach us to be humble and meek, and to submit all our desires to the will of God; to govern our affections by conscience, and our conscience by the dictates of revelation; to hold fast the faith once delivered unto the saints; and to take up our cross daily, and, if necessary, resist unto blood, striving against sin.]

May we be followers of thy saints, even as they were of Christ; in pureness, in knowledge, in long-suffering, in kindness, in love unfeigned; that our rejoicing may be this, the testimony of our conscience; that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by thy grace, we have had our conversation in the world; providing for things honest, not only in the sight of God, but also in the sight of men. Grant, O Lord, that we may thus be followers of them who through faith and

patience inherit the promises, that hereafter Thou mayest mercifully make us partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light, through the merits of our Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

COLLECTS FOR THE SAINTS' DAYS, AND OTHER DAYS WHICH THE CHURCH HAS APPOINTED

TO BE OBSERVED.

(From the Book of Common Prayer.)

SAINT ANDREW'S DAY.

NOVEMBER 30.

ALMIGHTY GOD, who didst give such grace unto thy holy Apostle Saint Andrew, that he readily obeyed the calling of thy Son JESUS CHRIST, and followed him without delay; grant unto us all, that we, being called by thy Holy Word, may forthwith give up ourselves obediently to fulfil thy holy commandments, through the same JESUS CHRIST our Lord. Amen.

SAINT THOMAS THE APOSTLE.

DECEMBER 21.

ALMIGHTY and ever-living GOD, who for the more confirmation of the faith didst suffer thy holy Apostle Thomas to be doubtful in thy Son's resurrection; grant us so perfectly, and without all doubt, to believe in thy Son JESUS CHRIST, that our faith in thy sight may never be reproved. Hear us, O Lord, through the same JESUS CHRIST; to whom, with Thee, and the Holy Ghost, be all honour and glory, now and for evermore. Amen.

THE CONVERSION OF SAINT PAUL.

JANUARY 25.

O God, who through the preaching of the blessed Apostle Saint Paul hast caused the light of thy Gospel to shine throughout the world; grant, we beseech Thee, that we, having his wonderful conversion in remembrance, may show forth our thankfulness unto Thee for the same, by following the holy doctrine which he taught, through JESUS CHRIST our Lord. Amen.

THE PRESENTATION OF CHRIST IN

THE TEMPLE.

(Commonly called the Purification of the Virgin Mary.)

FEBRUARY 2.

ALMIGHTY and ever-living GOD, we humbly beseech thy Majesty, that, as thy only begotten Son was this day presented in the temple in substance of our flesh; so we may be presented unto Thee with pure and clean hearts, by the same, thy Son JESUS CHRIST Our Lord. Amen.

SAINT MATTHIAS'S DAY.

FEBRUARY 24.

O ALMIGHTY GOD, who into the place of the traitor Judas didst choose thy faithful servant Matthias to be of the number of the twelve Apostles; grant that thy Church, being always preserved from false Apostles, may be ordered and guided by faithful and true Pastors, through JESUS CHRIST Our Lord.

Amen.
