fulness, as may appear in our lives by a holy and obedient walking before Thee all our days.

Suffer us not to become luxurious or proud, profuse or careless, and forgetful of Thee, the Lord our GOD, who hast wrought such mighty works for us. Let this be the blessed fruit of all thy gracious dealings towards us, that we may turn from the evil of our ways, and live as a people whom Thou hast chosen, in so many remarkable instances, to be the peculiar care of thy providence. Make us truly sensible, O Lord, that it is Thou, and Thou only, that hast done these great things for us. And from the consideration of thy great goodness towards us, may we walk humbly before Thee. In our several places and stations, may we manifest sincere love to Thee, charity to one another, and dutiful subjection to our Sovereign; may we show forth such zeal for thy honour and glory, and maintain such a steadfast perseverance in thy pure and undefiled religion, that Thou mayest be no

more provoked to visit us with thy judg ments, but mayest rejoice over us to do us good, and mayest continue to us, and to our posterity, the blessings we now enjoy, and add to them such other mercies as Thou in thy great wisdom and goodness seest needful for us, through the merits and for the sake of thy Son, and our Saviour JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

[Short Thanksgivings, one of which may be included, when applicable, in the usual Daily Prayers, and in the Devotions for a Day of Thanksgiving.]

For a Plentiful Harvest.

Gracious GOD, the bountiful Provider of all good things, the eyes of all wait upon Thee; and Thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thy hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. Every year Thou renewest the face of the earth, and givest rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons; filling our hearts with

food and gladness. O how many of thy creatures have bestowed their labours and lost their lives, and been consumed, to clothe and sustain and gratify us! At what vast expense art Thou continually to maintain the whole world of creatures, that every where hang upon Thee for life and breath and all things! Yet Thou art not weary of doing us good; but still showerest down blessings plentifully upon us, providing not only necessaries to keep us alive, but also a variety of comforts to make our lives happy and useful. Thou delightest in mercy, and hast pleasure in the prosperity of thy servants. Thou hast reserved unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest with the fruits thereof. Thou hast rewarded the labour of the husbandman, and filled his farms with a plentiful store.

Thou hast blessed our provision abundantly, and satisfied our poor with bread. Blessed be thy name, O Lord our GOD, who hast dealt so bountifully with us. hearts with gladness and our

praise, and grant us grace evermore to serve Thee faithfully and truly, through our Lord and Saviour JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

For the Cessation of Pestilence.

O Thou great Preserver of men! Thou hast delivered our souls from the hand of the grave; and kept us alive, that we should not go down to the pit. The jaws of death were open upon us, and we went with our lives in our hands; our hearts failing for fear of the destruction that raged amongst us, when the very air which we drew in to give us life, was to so many the sad messenger of death. Yet when thousands fell on every side of us, we have dwelt in the secret place of the Most High; and under the shadow of the Almighty have been kept in safety. O what shall we say and what shall we give unto Thee, who art our present help and only Saviour in time of trouble! We are every way thine, O Lord; and to Thee only be all glory. We

bless Thee, our GOD, as those that are made alive from the dead; and O that the lives which have been given us at our request, may be devoted wholly unto Thee, and be spent in thy service; O that we may love and serve and praise our GOD, while we have our being!

On the same subject.

Blessed be thy goodness, O Lord, for having preserved so many of us alive in the midst of the late great mortality, and for having restored health again into the habitations of our neighbours. Blessed be thy sparing mercy, O Lord, for Thou hast delivered us from the noisome Pestilence; and when a thousand fell at our side, and ten thousand at our right hand, Thou didst not suffer it to come nigh our dwelling. Thou hast been our refuge and our fortress, our GoD in whom we ought to trust; blessed be thy gracious name for ever and

ever.
