Excellent. Admirably adapted to interest children.'-Recorder.

PREFACE.

IN the preparation of 'Stories for Standard II.,' the great aim has been to make the lessons interesting and attractive.

The fables and stories are suggestive. In the hands of a good teacher every lesson should provoke thought and create a love of reading. An intelligent child will perceive the truth, and reason out the philosophy underlying the fables without much difficulty.

A concise vocabulary is placed at the head of each lesson, and is followed by a selection of words likely to present difficulty in spelling.

The thanks of the Editor are due to Mr. John Taylor for contributing largely to the prose matter of the book.
