THE STATE GOVERNMENT

Opening of bids for sale of the second installment of $20,000,000 of State Highway bonds and resumption of the winter schedule of meetings by various State boards will mark the coming week at the State Capitol. The bonds are to be sold September 10th, money payable September 15th.

Payment of money for road construction has been at an unprecedented rate this summer. The State Highway department now has over 1,000 miles under contract with almost 500 completed. Bids will be opened September 22d for a dozen projects with dates for October to be designated.

Governor Pinchot will return to Harrisburg the latter part of the coming week and remain here until September 17th when he will begin his third tour, concluding September 26th at Scranton. The final tour will extend from October 5th to 22d, concluding at Philadelphia.

The Sanitary Waters and Water and Power Resources boards will resume sessions during the week and a plan may be worked out for a meeting of the new Giant Power Board this month.

The State Board of Pardons will hear Philadelphia cases September 16th and the balance of the calendar the following day.

Harrisburg September 22d and meet in Philadelphia the next three days.

Charles H. Graff, who retired September 1st as first deputy secretary of banking, to become vice president of an Atlantic City bank, will be succeeded by one of the deputies. Secretary Peter G. Cameron has returned to his duties after an absence of six weeks due to illness.

The Department of Labor and Industry is asking for information from employers of negroes with a view to "guide negro workers into more suitable and stable employment and better living and social conditions."

Bids have been received by the Department of Property for about half a million dollars worth of work at the State Capitol group and park.

The State Industrial Board will resume sessions September 23d.
