REVEREND JAMES NORRIS, D.D.,
PRESIDENT OF CORPUS CHRISTI COLLEGE, OXFORD.
REVEREND AND DEAR SIR,
I FEEL sincere pleasure in dedicating to you the first work that has emanated from this school, since its revival, under the new arrangement.
Every one connected with the Cheltenham Grammar School is, no less than myself, impressed with a deep sense of the earnest, kind and impartial manner, in which you have discharged your duty as its Chief Patron; and of the effective assistance which you have always been ready to afford me in my efforts to raise the School to that position of honourable usefulness for which it was designed by its benevolent and pious founder..
Those efforts have been blest with more than ordinary success—our Roll having risen, in two years, from thirty to three hundred. For this I feel, to a great extent, indebted to the sympathy and support afforded me by yourself and the other Patrons, and therefore can only regret that it is not in my power to evince my gratitude to you and them by inscribing to you a work of a higher order and greater merit, than this unpretending little School-Book.
I am, Rev. and Dear Sir,
Yours very obediently,
E. R. HUMPHREYS.
