Excerpt from Motor Days in England: A Record of a Journey Through Picturesque Southern England, With Historical and Literary Observations by the Way

Time advances with inexorable and quickening pace when the sun has once passed the meridian and, ere one is conscious of it, the shadows have already grown long and, as they still lengthen, the great world that is past assumes a softer, a mellower light. Men and things and interests take on a different aspect, and try as we may we can no longer see them as once we did.

If then the time comes, as it surely will come, when encroaching years have subdued the Wanderlust of youth, when it is more pleasing to summon to the sessions of quiet, reminiscent thought the remembrance of things long since past, rather than to plan for the future, if this little book shall serve to recall recollections of half-forgotten scenes and places, making them vibrant with the echo of voices long since stilled, then its purpose is well served, for it will give a sweet, contented happiness beyond that of mere material success and youthful ambitions achieved.
