passages from the Psalms and Scriptures, have been chosen as best adapted to awaken attention, affect the heart, and cherish a sound and practical religious spirit, in members of families whose necessary duties and avocations only admit of their devoting a very limited portion of their time to the purposes of holy meditation and family prayer. DEPENDENCE ON GOD. EVEN as the needle that directs the hour all, But like a vine, the prop cut down, I fall. QUARLES. SUNDAY MORNING. ON the seventh day, God ended his work, which he had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it, because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Wherefore, remember the sabbath day to keep it holy. Six days may work be done, but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest holy to the Lord. Hallow my sabbaths, and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the Lord your God. This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. We will come before his presence with thanksgiving, and enter his courts with praise. We will lift up our hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord. We will praise the Lord with our whole heart, in the assembly of the upright, and in the congregation. Glory be to the Father, &c. PRAYER FOR PARDON. Most merciful God, whose goodness is great, and who delighteth in the conversion and salvation of sinners, we desire to present unto thee the sacrifice of a troubled spirit, of a broken and contrite heart; beseeching thee to purify our souls, and let thy free Spirit loose us from the bondage of sin, and establish us in the freedom and liberty of the sons of God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Then shall all repeat THE LORD'S PRAYER. Amen. |
