31 Ed egli fu veduto per molti giorni da coloro ch' eran con lui saliti di Galilea in Gerusalemme, i quali sono i suoi testimoni appo il popolo.

32 E noi ancora vi evangelizziamo la promessa fatta a' padri,

33 Dicendovi, che Iddio l'ha adempiuta inverso noi, lor figliuoli, avendo risuscitato Gesù, siccome ancora è scritto nel salmo secondo: Tu sei il mio Figliuolo, oggi ti ho generato.

34 E, perciocchè egli l' ha suscitato da' morti, per non tornar più nella corruzione, egli ha detto così: Io vi darò le fedeli benignità promesse a Davide.

35 Perciò ancora egli dice in un altro luogo: Tu non permetterai che il tuo Santo vegga corruzione.

36 Conciossiachè veramente Davide, avendo servito al consiglio di Dio nella sua età, si sia addormentato, e sia stato aggiunto a' suoi padri, e abbia veduta corruzione.

37 Ma colui che Iddio ha risuscitato non ha veduta corruzione. 38 Siavi adunque noto, fratelli, che per costui vi è annunziata remission de' peccati;

39 E che di tutte le cose, onde per la legge di Mosè non siete potuti esser giustificati, chiunque crede è giustificato per costui.

40 Guardatevi adunque, che non venga sopra voi ciò che è detto ne' profeti :

41 Vedete, o sprezzatori, e maravigliatevi; e riguardate, e siate smarriti; perciocchè io fo un' opera a' dì vostri, la quale voi non crederete, quando alcuno ve la racconterà.

42 Ora, quando furono usciti dalla sinagoga de' Giudei, i Gentili li pregarono che infra la settimana le medesime cose fosser loro proposte.

43 E, dopo che la raunanza si fu dipartita, molti d' infra i Giudei, e i proseliti religiosi, seguitarono [Ital. & Eng.]

31 And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

32 And we declare unto you glad · tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers, 33 God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

34 And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.

35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

36 For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

37 But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:

39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

40 Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;

41 Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

42 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

43 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed

45 Ma i Giudei, veggendo la moltitudine, furon ripieni d' invidia, e contradicevano alle cose dette da Paolo, contradicendo, e bestemmiando.

46 E Paolo, e Barnaba, usando franchezza nel lor parlare, dissero: Egli era necessario che a voi prima si annunziasse, la parola di Dio; ma, poichè la ributtate, e non vi giudicate degni della vita eterna, ecco, noi ci volgiamo a' Gentili.

47 Perciocchè così ci ha il Signore ingiunto, dicendo: Io ti ho posto per esser luce delle Genti, acciocchè tu si in salute fino all' estremità della terra.

48 E i Gentili, udendo queste cose, si rallegrarono, e glorificavano la parola di Dio; e tutti coloro che erano ordinati a vita eterna credettero.

49 E la parola del Signore si spandeva per tutto il paese.

50 Ma i Giudei instigarono le donne religiose ed onorate, e i principali della città, e commossero persecuzione contro a Paolo, e contro a Barnaba, e gli scacciarono da' lor confini.

51 Ed essi, scossa la polvere de' lor piedi contro a loro, se ne vennero in Iconio.

52 E i discepoli eran ripieni di allegrezza, e di Spirito Santo.

CAPO 14.

Ravvenne che in Iconio entra

row parimente nella sinagoga de' Giudei, e parlarono in maniera, che una gran moltitudine di Giudei e di Greci, credette.

2 Ma i Giudei increduli commossero, e inasprirono gli animi de' Gentili contro a' fratelli.

44 And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. 45 But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. 46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

47 For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

49 And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

50 But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.

51 But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

52 And the disciples were filledwith joy, and with the Holy Ghost.

CHAPTER 14.

ND it came to pass in Iconium,

A that they went both together

into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed.

2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren,

3 Essi adunque dimorarono quivi molto tempo, parlando francamente nel Signore, il qual rendeva testimonianza alla parola della sua grazia, concedendo che per le lor mani si facesser segni e prodigi.

4 E la moltitudine della città fu divisa; e gli uni tenevano co' Giudei, e gli altri con gli apostoli.

5 Ma, fattosi uno sforzo de' Gentili, e de' Giudei, co' lor rettori, per fare ingiuria agli apostoli, e per lapidarli ;

6 Essi, intesa la cosa, se ne fuggirono nelle città di Licaonia, Listra, e Derba, e nel paese d' intorno;

7 E quivi evangelizzavano.

8 Or in Listra vi era un uomo impotente de' piedi, il quale sempre sedeva, essendo zoppo dal ventre di sua madre, e non avea giammai camminato.

9 Costui udì parlar Paolo; il quale affiscati in lui gli occhi, e, veggendo ch' egli avea fede d'esser

sanato,

10 Disse ad alta voce: Io ti dico, nel nome del Signor Gesù Cristo, levati ritto in piè. Ed egli saltò su, e camminava.

11 E le turbe, avendo veduto ciò che Paolo avea fatto, alzarono la lor voce, dicendo in lingua Licaonica: Gl' iddii, fattisi simili agli uomini, son discesi a noi.

12 E chiamavano Barnaba Giove, e Paolo Mercurio; perciocchè egli era il primo a parlare.

13 E il sacerdote di Giove, il cui tempio era davanti alla lor città, menò all' antiporto de' tori, con ghirlande, e voleva sacrificare con le turbe.

14 Ma gli apostoli, Barnaba, e Paolo, udito ciò, si stracciarono i vestimenti, e saltaron per mezzo la moltitudine, sclamando,

15 E dicendo: Uomini, perchè fate queste cose? ancora noi siam uomini sottoposti a medesime passioni come voi; e vi evangelizziamo

3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

4 But the multitude of the city was divided and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles.

5 And when there was an assault made both of the Gentiles, and also of the Jews with their rulers, to use them despitefully, and to stone them,

6 They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about:

7 And there they preached the gospel.

8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked:

9 The same heard Paul speak: who steadfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed,

10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked.

11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of

men.

12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker.

13 Then the priest of Jupiter,. which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people.

14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out,

15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should

che da queste cose vane vi convertiate all' Iddio vivente, il quale ha fatto il cielo, e la terra, e il mare, e tutte le cose che sono in essi ; 16 Il quale nell' età addietro ha lasciato camminar nelle lor vie tutte le nazioni.

17 Bench' egli non si sia lasciato senza testimonianza, facendo del bene, dandoci dal cielo piogge, e stagioni fruttifere; ed empiendo i cuori nostri di cibo e di letizia.

18 E, dicendo queste cose, appena fecero restar le turbe, che non sacrificasser loro.

19 Ora, facendo essi quivi qualche dimora, e insegnando, sopraggiunsero certi Giudei d' Antiochia, e di Iconio, i quali persuaser le turbe, e lapidarono Paolo, e lo strascinarono fuor della città, pensando che egli fosse morto.

20 Ma, essendosi i discepoli raunati d' intorno a lui, egli si levò, ed entrò nella città; e il giorno seguente egli partì con Barnaba, per andare in Derba.

21 E avendo evangelizzato a quella città, e fatti molti discepoli, se ne ritornarono in Listra, in Iconio, e in Antiochia;

22 Confermando gli animi de' discepoli, e confortandoli di perseverar nella fede, e ammonendoli che per molte afflizioni ci conviene entrare nel regno di Dio.

23 E, dopo che ebbero loro per ciascuna chiesa ordinati per voti comuni degli anziani, avendo orato con digiuni, li raccomandarono al Signore, nel quale aveano creduto.

24 E, traversata la Pisidia, vennero in Panfilia.

25 E, dopo avere annunziata la parola in Perga, discesero in Attalia.

26 E di là navigarono in Antio chia, onde erano stati raccomandati alla grazia di Dio, per l' opera che avean compiuta.

27 Ed essendovi giunti, raunaron la chiesa, e rapportarono quanto

17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. 18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them.

19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and, having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead.

20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe.

21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch,

22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed.

24 And after they had passed throughout Pisidia, they came to Pamphylia.

25 And when they had preached the word in Perga, they went down into Attalia:

26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled.

27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church to

CAPO 15.

R alcuni, discesi di Giudea, OR insegnavano i fratelli: Se voi non siete circoncisi, secondo il rito di Mosè, voi non potete esser salvati.

2 Onde essendo nato turbamento e quistione non piccola di Paolo e di Barnaba contro a loro, fu ordinato che Paolo, e Barnaba, ed alcuni altri di loro, salissero in Gerusalemme agli apostoli, ed anziani, per questa quistione.

3 Essi adunque, accompagnati dalla chiesa fuor della città, traversarono la Fenicia, e la Samaria, raccontando la conversion de' Gentili; e portarono grande allegrezza a tutti i fratelli.

4 Ed essendo giunti in Gerusalemme, furono accolti dalla chiesa, e dagli apostoli, e dagli anziani; e rapportarono quanto gran cose Iddio avea fatte con loro.

5 Ma, dicevano, alcuni della setta de' Farisei, i quali han creduto, si son levati, dicendo che convien circoncidere i Gentili, e comandar loro d' osservar la legge di Mosè.

6 Allora gli apostoli é gli anziani si raunarono, per provvedere a questo fatto.

7 Ed essendosi mossa una gran disputazione, Pietro si levò in piè, e disse loro: Fratelli, voi sapete che già da' primi tempi Iddio elesse fra noi me, acciocchè per la mia bocca i Gentili udissero la parola dell' evangelo, e credessero.

8 E Iddio, che conosce i cuori, ha renduta loro testimonianza, dando loro lo Spirito Santo, come ancora a noi;

9 E non ha fatta alcuna differenza tra noi e loro; avendo purificati i cuori loro per la fede.

28 And there they abode long time with the disciples.

CHAPTER 15.

ND certain men which came

brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question. 3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them.

5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.

6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter.

7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us;

9 And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
