47 Di nuovo, il regno de' cieli è simile ad una rete gettata in mare, la qual raccoglie d' ogni maniera di cose;

48 E, quando è piena, i pescatori la traggono fuori in sul lito; e, postisi a sedere, raccolgono le cose buone ne' lor vasi, e gettan via ciò che non val nulla.

49 Così avverrà nella fin del mondo; gli angeli usciranno, e metteranno da parte i malvagi d' infra i giusti;

50 E li getteranno nella fornace del fuoco. Ivi sarà il pianto e lo A stridor de' denti.

51 Gesù disse loro: Avete voi intese tutte queste cose? Essi gli dissero: Sì, Signore.

52 Ed egli disse loro: Perciò, ogni scriba, ammaestrato per lo regno de' cieli, è simile a un padrone di casa, il qual trae fuori dal suo tesoro cose vecchie, e nuove.

53 Ora, quando Gesù ebbe finite queste parabole, si dipartì di là.

54 Ed essendo venuto nella sua patria, gl' insegnava nella lor sinagoga, talchè essi stupivano, e dicevano: Onde viene a costui cotesta sapienza, e coteste potenti operazioni ?

55 Non è costui il figliuolo del falegname? sua madre non si chiama ella Maria? e i suoi fratelli, Giacomo, e Iose, e Simone, e Giuda? 56 E non son le sue sorelle tutte appresso di noi ? onde vengono dunque a costui tutte queste cose?

57 Ed erano scandalezzati di lui. E Gesù disse loro: Niun profeta è sprezzato, se non nella sua patria, e in casa sua.

58 Ed egli non fece quivi molte potenti operazioni, per la loro inCredulità.

45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchantman, seeking goodly pearls:

46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:

48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,

50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

51 Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these_things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.

52 Then said he unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven, is like unto a man that is a householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.

54 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?

55 Is not this the carpenter's son ? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?

57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them. A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.

58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

6 Ora, celebrandosi il giorno della natività di Erode, la figliuola di Erodiada avea ballato ivi in mezzo, ed era piaciuta ad Erode.

7 Onde egli le promise, con giuramento, di darle tutto ciò ch' ella chiederebbe.

8 Ed ella indotta prima da sua madre, disse: Dammi qui in un piatto la testa di Giovanni Battista.

9 E il re se ne attristò; ma pure, per li giuramenti, e per rispetto di coloro ch' erano con lui a tavola, comandò che le fosse data;

10 E mandò a far decapitar Giovanni Battista in prigione.

11 E la sua testa fu portata in un piatto, e data alla fanciulla; ed ella la portò a sua madre.

12 E i discepoli d' esso vennero, e tolsero il corpo, e lo seppellirono; poi vennero, e rapportarono il fatto a Gesù.

13 E Gesù, udito ciò, si ritrasse di là sopra una navicella, in un luogo deserto, in disparte. E le turbe, uditolo, lo seguitarono a piè, dalle città.

14 E Gesù, essendo smontato dalla navicella, vide una gran moltitudine, e fu mosso a compassione inverso loro, e sanò gl' infermi d'infra loro.

15 E, facendosi sera, i suoi discepoli gli si accostarono, dicendo: Questo luogo è deserto, e l' ora è

2 And said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.

3 For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife.

4 For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her. 5 And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.

6 But when Herod's birthday was kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod.

7 Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever sho would ask.

8 And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.

9 And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. 10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

11 And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother. 12 And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

13 ¶ When Jesus heard of it, he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart: and when the people had heard thereof, they followed him on foot out of the cities.

14 And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.

15 And when it was evening, his disciples came to him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time

16 Ma Gesù disse loro: Non han bisogno di andarsene; date lor voi da mangiare.

17 Ed essi gli dissero: Noi non abbiam qui se non cinque pani, e due pesci.

18 Ed egli disse: Recatemeli qua.

19 E comandò che le turbe si coricassero sopra l' erba; poi prese i cinque pani, e i due pesci; e, levati gli occhi al cielo, fece la benedizione; e, rotti i pani, li diede a' discepoli, e i discepoli alle turbe.

20 E tutti mangiarono, e furon saziati; poi i discepoli levarono l'avanzo de' pezzi, ê ve ne furono dodici corbelli pieni.

21 Or coloro che aveano mangiato erano intorno a cinquemila uomini, oltre alle donne ed i fanciulli.

22 Incontanente appresso, Gesù costrinse i suoi discepoli a montare in su la navicella, e a passare innanzi a lui all' altra riva, mentre egli licenziava le turbe.

23 Ed egli, dopo aver licenziate le turbe, salì in sul monte in disparte, per orare. E, fattosi sera, era quivi tutto solo.

24 E la navicella era già in mezzo del mare, travagliata dall' onde; perciocchè il vento era contrario. 25 E nella quarta vigilia della notte, Gesù se ne andò a loro, camminando sopra il mare.

26 E i discepoli, veggendolo camminar sopra il mare, si turbarono, dicendo: Egli è una fantasima. E di paura gridarono.

27 Ma subito Gesù parlò loro, dicendo: Rassicuratevi; son io, non temiate.

28 E Pietro, rispondendogli, disse: Signore, se sei tu, comanda che io venga a te sopra l'acque.

29 Ed egli disse: Vieni. E Pietro, smontato dalla navicella, camminava sopra l' acque, per venire a Gesù;

is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals.

16 But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat.

17 And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.

18 He said, Bring them hither to

me.

19 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.

20 And they did all eat, and were filled and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.

21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray and when the evening was come, he was there alone.

24 But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.

25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

26 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.

27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

30 Ma veggendo il vento forte, ebbe paura; e, cominciando a sommergersi, gridò, dicendo: Signore, salvami.

31 E incontanente Gesù distese la mano, e lo prese, e gli disse: O uomo di poca fede, perchè hai dubitato?

*32 Poi, quando furono entrati nella navicella, il vento si acquetò. 33 E coloro ch' erano nella navicella vennero, e l' adorarono, dicendo: Veramente tu sei il Figliuol di Dio.

34 Poi, essendo passati all' altra riva, vennero nella contrada di Gennesaret.

35 E gli uomini di quel luogo, avendolo riconosciuto, mandarono a farlo assapere per tutta quella contrada circonvicina; e gli presentarono tutti i malati;

36 E lo pregavano, che potessero sol toccare il lembo della sua vesta; e tutti quelli che lo toccarono furon sanati.

CAPO 15.

30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? 32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.

33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

34 And when they were gone over, they came into the land of Gennesaret.

35 And when the men of that place had knowledge of him, they sent out into all that country round about, and brought unto him all that were diseased;

36 And besought him that they might only touch the hem of his garment: and as many as touched were made perfectly whole.

2 Perchè trasgrediscono i tuoi discepoli la tradizion degli anziani? conciossiachè non si lavino le mani, quando, prendono cibo.

3 Ma egli, rispondendo, disse loro: E voi, perchè trasgredite il comandamento di Dio per la vostra tradizione?

4 Conciossiachè Iddio abbia comandato in questa maniera: Onora padre, e madre; e: Chi maledice padre, o madre, muoia di morte.

5 Ma voi dite: Chiunque avrà detto al padre, od alla madre: Tutto ciò, di che tu potresti esser da me Sovvenuto, sia offerta;

6 Non possa più onorar suo padre, e sua madre. E avete annullato il comandamento di Dio con la vostra tradizione.

CHAPTER 15.

HEN came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias. prophesy of you, saying,

8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honour

labbra; ma il cuor loro è lungi da

me.

9 Ma invano mi onorano insegnando dottrine, che son comandamenti d' uomini.

10 Poi, chiamata a sè la moltitudine, le disse: Ascoltate, e intendete:

11 Non ciò che entra nella bocca contamina l' uomo ; ma ben lo contamina ciò che esce dalla bocca.

12 Allora i suoi discepoli, accostatisi, gli dissero: Sai tu che i Farisei, udito questo ragionamento, sono stati scandalezzati ?

13 Ed egli, rispondendo, disse: Ogni pianta che il padre mio celeste non ha piantata sarà diradicata.

14 Lasciateli; son guide cieche di ciechi; ora se un cieco guida un altro cieco, amendue cadranno nella fossa.

15 E Pietro, rispondendo, gli disse: Dichiaraci quella parabola.

16 E Gesù disse: Siete voi eziandio ancor privi d' intelletto?

17 Non intendete voi ancora che tutto ciò che entra nella bocca se ne va nel ventre, e poi è gettato fuori nella latrina ?

18 Ma, le cose che escono dalla bocca procedono dal cuore, ed esse contaminano l' uomo.

19 Conciossiachè dal cuore procedano pensieri malvagi, omicidii, adulterii, fornicazioni, furti, false testimonianze, maldicenze;

20 Queste son le cose che contaminano l'uomo; ma il mangiare con mani non lavate non contamina l'uomo.

21 Poi Gesù, partitosi di là, si ritrasse nelle parti di Tiro, e di Sidon.

22 Ed ecco, una donna Cananea, uscita di que' confini, gli gridò, dicendo: Abbi pietà di me, o Signore, figliuol di Davide! la mia figliuola è malamente tormentata dal demonio.

23 Ma egli non le rispondeva nulla. E i suoi discepoli, accostati

12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?

13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the

man.

19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.

22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.

23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and
