Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to a the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

* And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city. And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money. And he erected there an altar, and called it El-eloheIsrael, Gen. xxxiii. 18-20. Moreover, I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow, xlviii. 22.

μα ἔχεις, καὶ τὸ φρέαρ ἐστὶ βαθύ πόθεν

The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou
hast nothing to draw with, and the well
is deep: from whence then hast thou that
living water?

VER. 12.

Μὴ σὺ μείζων εἶ τοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν Ἰακώβ, ὃς ἔδωκεν ἡμῖν τὸ φρέαρ, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐξ αὐτοῦ ἔπιε, καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὰ θρέμ 'ματα αὐτοῦ;

Art thou greater than our father Jacob, a which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

Jesus answered and said unto her,

Whosoever drinketh of this water shall
thirst again:

*Ος δ ̓ ἂν πίῃ ἐκ τοῦ ὕδατος οὗ ἐγὼ δώσο αὐτῷ, οὐ μὴ διψήσῃ εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα· ἀλλὰ τὸ ὕδωρ ὃ δώσω αὐτῷ γενήσεται ἐν αὐτῷ πηγὴ ὕδατος ἀλλομένου εἰς ζωὴν αἰώνιον.

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him, shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him

(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given ; because that Jesus was not yet glorified), John vii. 38, 39. And 1 will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you, xiv. 16, 17. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts, 2 Cor. i. 21, 22. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also that ye believed, ye were sealed is the earnest of our inheritance until with that Holy Spirit of promise, which the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory, Eph. i. 13, 14. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption,

His foundation is in the holy moun-
tains. The LORD loveth the gates of
Zion more than all the dwellings of
Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of
thee, O city of God. Selah, Psal.
lxxxvii. 1-3. For the LORD hath cho-
sen Zion; he hath desired it for his
habitation. This is my rest for ever:
here will I dwell; for I have desired
it, cxxxii. 13, 14.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem worship the Father.

Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the manner of the God of the land. Then one of the priests whom they had carried away fromSamaria came and dwelt in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear the LORD. Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt. And the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ăshima, And the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burnt their children in fire to Adrammelech and

Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. unto themselves of the lowest of them So they feared the LORD, and made priests of the high places, which sacrificed for them in the houses of the

Ὑμεῖς προσκυνεῖτε δ' οὐκ οἴδατε· ἡμεῖς προσκυνοῦμεν ὃ οἴδαμεν· ὅτι ἡ σωτηρία ἐκ τῶν Ἰουδαίων ἐστίν.

To this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word, lxvi. 2. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted, Luke xviii. 13, 14.

b For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the Gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, Rom. i. 9. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered, viii. 26. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints, Eph. vi. 18. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh, Phil. iii. 3. But ye, beloved, building up your selves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Jude 20.
