Ασπάσασθε Τρύφαιναν καὶ Τρυφῶσαν, τὰς κοπιώσας ἐν Κυρίῳ. ̓Ασπάσασθε Περσίδα τὴν ἀγαπητὴν, ἦτις πολλὰ ἐκοπίασεν ἐν Κυρίῳ.

Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, which laboured much in the Lord.

VER. 13.

Ασπάσασθε 'Ρούφον τὸν ἐκλεκτὸν ἐν Κυρίῳ, καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐμοῦ. Salute Rufus, a chosen in the Lord, and his mother und mine.

VER. 14.

Ασπάσασθε Ασύγκριτον, Φλέγοντα, Ερμᾶν, Πατρίβαν. Ερμήν, καὶ τοὺς σὺν αὐτοῖς ἀδελφούς.

a Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so, as ye have us for an ensample. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ, Phil. iii. 17, 18. And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed, 2 Thess. iii. 14.

VER. 18.

To the enlightened friends of revelation it has long been a subject of deep regret, that while the interests of every other branch of literature have been recommended and advanced by the powerful agency of the periodical press, so little, comparatively, has been done, by the same means, for that important branch which has for its object the criticism and illustration of the Holy Scriptures.

Without attempting to depreciate the value of any of those excellent periodical works which are devoted to the interests of religion, and which occasionally furnish valuable information to the Biblical student, it may safely be asserted, that a work of this description, devoted exclusively to Biblical Literature, and embracing the discussion of every subject connected with the illustration of the Sacred Volume, upon those broad principles which are held by the whole of the religious public, is yet a desideratum.

To supply this desideratum is the object of the CRITICA BIBLICA-a periodical work published at a moderate price, and embracing every topic of Biblical learning, upon a plan which, it is presumed, will gratify the scholar, while it affords many rare facilities to the unlearned reader, for obtaining an intimate acquaintance with the important truths, and literary beauties of the Holy Scriptures.

The proprietors of this work, having established it at a considerable expense, for the sole purpose of exciting an increased attention and love to the Sacred Volume, appeal to every friend of that Holy Book, to assist them with their countenance and support, in the prosecution of the great and important object in which they have embarked.
