FOR THE SUNDAYS AND HOLYDAYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. BY JOHN S. B. MONSELL, LL.D. VICAR OF EGHAM, AND RURAL DEAN. 'Speaking to yourselves in Psalms and Hymns and SPIRITUAL SONGS, JOHN W. PARKER AND SON, WEST STRAND. 147. d. 43. ADVERTISEMENT. THE following Poems were written, during a winter spent, for the sake of health, by the shores of the Mediterranean, under the orange and olive groves of Italy. Their aim is the highest which the human mind can propose to itself to help men along the way to Heaven. How far in this they may succeed, must depend much, (under the Divine blessing,) on how far they have caught the pure spirit of those Sacred Seasons, by which they were suggested, and which they seek to illustrate. Happy will the Author be, if they,-leading one soul into a more fervent use, of the Evangelic Services of our Apostolic Church,-teach, how truly— in the deep earnestness, and tender spirituality of her ritual-' we have the mind of Christ." EGHAM VICARAGE, 18th Sunday after Trinity, 1857. |
