THEREAS it is expedient to grant further assistance to the Natural History Society of Montreal, and to enable the said Society to purchase a Cabinet of Minerals: May it therefore please your Majesty, that it may be enacted and be it enacted by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of the Province of LowerCanada, constituted and assembled by virtue of, and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, "An Act to repeal cer"tain parts of an Act passed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, inti"tuled, "An Act for making more effectual provision for the Government of the "Province of Quebec, in North America ;" and to make further provision for "the Government of the said Province;" and it is hereby enacted by the autho rity of the same, that it shall be lawful for the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, or person administering the Government of this Province, to issue his Warrant for the advance of a sum of money not exceeding two hundred pounds currency, out of any unappropriated monies in the hands of the Receiver-General, to the Treasurer of the said Society, which sum so advanced, shall be employed by the said Society in the purchase of a Cabinet of minerals.

II. III. YU qu'il est expédient d'accorder une aide ultérieure à la Société d'Histoire Préambule. Naturelle de Montréal, et de mettre la dite Société en état de faire l'acquisition d'un Cabinet de Minéraux :-Qu'il plaise donc à Votre Majesté qu'il puisse être statué, et qu'il soit statué par la Très-Excellente Majesté du Roi, par et de l'avis et consentement du Conseil Législatif et de l'Assemblée de la Province du Bas-Canada, constitués et assemblés en vertu et sous l'autorité d'un Acte passé dans le Parlement de la Grande-Bretagne, intitulé, "Acte qui rap

pelle certaines parties d'un Acte passé dans la quatorzième année du Règne "de Sa Majesté, intitulé, "Acte qui pourvoit plus efficacement pour le Gouverne"ment de la Province de Québec dans l'Amérique Septentrionale;" Et qui pourvoit plus amplement pour le Gouvernement de la dite Province:" Et il est par le présent statué par la dite autorité, que le Gouverneur, Lieutenant Gouverneur, ou la Personne ayant l'Administration du Gouvernement de cette Province, pourra émaner son Warrant pour l'avance d'une somme d'Argent n'excédant pas deux cents livres courant, à même les argens non affectés entre les mains du Receveur Général, au Trésorier de la dite Société, laquelle somme ainsi avancée sera employée par la dite Société pour faire l'acquisition d'un Cabinet de Minéraux,

II. Pourvu toujours, et qu'il soit de plus statué par l'autorité susdite, que le Cabinet de Minéraux dont on aura fait l'acquisition comme susdit, sera déposé dans le même édifice où se trouve le Musée et la Bibliothêque de la dite Société, et qu'il y sera gardé pour l'inspection du public sous les réglemens de la dite Société, et qu'il ne sera aliéné ni déplacé que du consentement de tous les Membres le la dite Société, ni jusqu'à ce que la somme dont l'avance est autorisée par cet Acte ait été remboursée au Receveur Général de la Province, pour demeurer ntre ses mains à la disposition de la Législature Provinciale, pour les usages ublics de la Province.

III. Et qu'il soit de plus statué par l'autorité susdite, que dans les quinze Durs après l'ouverture de la prochaine Session de la Législature Provinciale, le résorier de la dite Société mettra devant les diverses branches d'icelle, un compte dèle de la manière en laquelle on aura dépensé et employé les deniers dont et Acte autorise l'avance.

AN ACT to incorporate certain Persons under the name of the Quebec
Friendly Society.

HEREAS the protection and encouragement of Friendly Societies in this Province, for raising by voluntary subscription of the Members thereof, separate Funds for the mutual relief of the said Members in sickness, old age. and infirmity, is likely to be attended with very beneficial effects, by promoting the happiness of individuals: and whereas Robert Cairns, William Names of the Burke, George Vine, Jeremiah Wright, Joseph Johnson, Robert Scott, William King, James Hillman, Thomas Stonehouse, Robert Murray, George Black, James Sharp, John Bryson, Owen McAnnally, Robert Cairns the younger, François Mailloux, Robert Jellard, Johu Glass, John Smith, Olivier Vallerand, Jean Baptiste Decarreau, Francis Moore, Robert Bews, Thomas Graham, John Young, Richard Fielder, William Fielder, John Rynex, Antoine Fishback, James Birch, William Hossack, John Fielder, John Phillips, Thomas Murphy, Charles Lamond, William Downes, Elizer Miller, Peter Gady, Henry Lancaster Thompson, Pierre Laviolette, Francois Xavier Paradis, Daniel Lamond, Alexander Hume, and Joseph Dupras, have formed themselves into a Society by the name of the Quebec Friendly Society, for raising by voJuntary subscription of the Members thereof, a Fund for the mutual relief of the said Members in sickness, old age and infirmity, without any legal authority to make the necessary rules for the government and guidance of the said Society, which may be binding upon all its Members, and to lay out and manage the Stock or Fund collected and raised for these purposes; Be it therefore enacted, by the King's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council and Assembly of the Province of Lower Canada, constituted and assembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act passed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, "An Act to repeal certain parts "of an Act passed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, intituled, "An Act for making more effectual provision for the Government of the Pro"vince of Quebec, in North America," and to make further provision for

ciétés Amicales en cette Province, à l'effet de prélever par souscription volontaire des Membres d'icelles des fonds pour le secours mutuel des dits Membres, soit en cas de maladie, de viellesse ou d'infirmité, produiroient vraisemblament des effets très-avantageux en augmentant le bien-être des individus; Et vu Membres de la que Robert Cairns, William Burke, George Vine, Jeremiah Wright, Joseph Société Johnson, Robert Scott, William King, James Hillman, Thomas Stonehouse, Robert Murray, George Black, James Sharp, John Bryson, Owen McAnnally, Robert Cairns, fils, François Mailloux, Robert Jellard, John Glass, John Smith, Olivier Vallerand, Jean Baptiste Décareau, François Moore, Robert Bews, Thomas Graham, John Young, Richard Fielder, William Fielder, John Rynex, Antoine Fishback, James Birch, William Hossack, John Fielder, John Phillips, Thomas Murphy, Charles Lamond, William Downes, Elizer Miller, Peter Gady, Henry Lancaster Thompson, Pierre Laviolette, François Xavier Paradis, Daniel Lamond, Alexander Hume et Joseph Dupras, se sont formés en société sous le nom de "Société Amicale de Québec," pour prélever par la souscription volontaire des Membres d'icelle des fonds pour le secours mutuel des dits Membres en cas de maladie, de viellesse ou d'infirmité, mais n'ont pas le pouvoir légal de faire des Règlemens suffisans pour le gouvernement et le bon ordre de la dite Société, qui puissent lier tous les Membres, et ne peuvent pas placer et gérer les fonds prélevés pour ces objets ;-Qu'il soit donc statué par la Très-Excellente Majesté du Roi, par et de l'avis et consentement du Conseil Législatif et de l'Assemblée de la Province du Bas-Canada, constitués et assemblés en vertu et sous l'autorité d'un Acte passé dans le Parlement de la GrandeBretagne, intitulé, "Acte qui rappelle certaines parties d'un Acte passé dans "la quatorzième année du Règne de Sa Majesté, intitulé, "Acte qui pourvoit plus efficacement pour le Gouvernement de la Province de Québec, dans l'Amérique Septentrionale;" Et qui pourvoit plus amplement pour le Gouvernement Ss 2

"the Government of the said Province;" and it is hereby enacted by Name of the the authority of the same, that it shall and may be lawful to and for the said Robert Cairns, William Burke, George Vine, Jeremiah Wright, Joseph Johnson, Robert Scott, William King, James Hillman, Thomas Stonehouse, Robert Murray, George Black, James Sharp, John Bryson, Owen McAnnally, Robert Cairns, the younger, François Mailloux, Robert Jellard, John Glass, John Smith, Olivier Vallerand, Jean Baptiste Décareau, Francis Moore, Robert Bews, Thomas Graham, John Young, Richard Fielder, William Fielder, John Rynex, Antoine Fisback, James Birch, William Hossack, John Fielder, John Phillips, Thomas Murphy, Charles Lamond, William Downes, Elizer Miller, Peter Gady, Henry Lancaster Thompson, Pierre Laviolette, François Xavier Paradis, Daniel Lamond, Alexander Hume and Joseph Dupras, and to and for all and every person or persons who may hereafter become mem. bers of the said Society, under the regulations of this Act, to form themselves into a Society, under the name of the Quebec Friendly Society," for the purpose of raising from time to time by subscription of the Members of the said Society, and by voluntary contributions, a Stock or Fund for the mutual relief of all and every the members thereof, in old age, sickness and infirmity, and for the relief of the widows and children of deceased members, and that the several members of the said Society, or such number of them as shall be nominated a Committee for that purpose, may from time to time assemble and make, ordain, and constitute such proper and wholesome rules, orders, and regulations for the better Government and guidance of the same, as to the majority of the said Society or of such Committee thereof so assembled shall seem meet; Provided that such Rules, Orders and Regulations shall not be repugnant to the laws of this Province, nor to any of the express provisions or regulations of this Act, and to impose and inflict such reasonable fines and forfeitures, not exceeding five pounds currency, upon the several members of the said Society, who shall offend against such Rules, Orders and Regulations as shall be just and necessary for duly enforcing the same; and may also from time to time, alter and amend such Rules, Orders and Regulations as occasion shall require, or to annul or repeal the same, and make new Rules, Orders, and Regulations instead thereof, under such restrictions as are in this Act contained. Provided nevertheless, that this Society shall not be, nor be deemed or taken, to be established under the authority or within the intent and meaning of this Act, unless all the Rules, Orders, and Regulations intended for the government of the said Society, shall, on or before the tenth day of October next, be submitted to His Majesty's Court of King's Bench for the District of Quebec, in a Superior Term, for the administration of justice in civil causes, which said Court shall and may, after due examination thereof, annul and make void all or any of such Rules, Orders and Regulations as shall be repugnant to this Act, and shall allow and confirm all or any of such Rules, Orders and Regulations as shall be conformable to the true intent and meaning of this Act,
