THISTLEDOWN.

The Angelus Bell

HARK! the bell is ringing,
While the lark is singing,
At the break of day:

Joyfully repeating

The archangel's greeting,

Let us kneel and pray!

Hark! at noontide pealing, Through the bright air stealing: "Servant of the Lord,

Be thy sole endeavour

To do His will for ever
According to His word."

Yet again it calleth,

When the daylight falleth,

Seeming low to say:

"The Son of God was given
To make thee heir of heaven;

Mortal! kneel and pray!"
