ject of the exercise-unless he knows what habits are to be corrected by it, and what are the several qualifications he has to acquire or improve. The exercises should be gradational, and adapted to meet, in turn, every requisite of the art. Thus ordered, they would take their place among the duties of the learner with scarcely any addition to his toil; for the ensuing thin volume contains as large a Course of exercises as would be necessary, and though, with some pupils, it might be expedient to go through it again and again, yet a single lesson a week under a competent instructor during an advanced period of education, would abundantly answer the purpose.
