[Endenture between the Guild of St. George and All Saints.]

His indenture, made betwixt Thomas Newman and Nicholas Hertberd,

suburbus of the cittie of Dublin Morys Colton and Patricke Hertberd wardens of the said gelde of the one parte, and Nicholas Prior and convent of the house of All Saints by sydes Dublin on the other parte, Witnesseth that the said masters, wardens, and their successors, by the onely assent and consent of the fraternitie of the said gelde, have given and granted to the said Prior and Convent and their successors four markes of silver of lawfull money, to be paid to the said Prior and convent and their successors by the hands of the said masters and wardens that now beene or for time shalbe, at the feasts of Easter and Saint Michaell the Archangell by even porcions yearely, for the sustentacion and wages of a honnest chapleyn to say masse and other divine service in the said chapell in Sundaies and feasts and thrice by weeke, that is to say, Wednesday, Fryday, and Saturday, wekely and yearely. To have and to hold the said four marke to the said Prior and convent and their successors in forme aforesaid, as long as the said masters and wardens and their successors hath and enjoyeth and shall have and enjoy eight marke granted by the king to the said inasters and wardens and their successors to find and sustaine a priest at the

pleasure

pleasure of the said king in forme aforesaid.

Provided that as ofte as the said Prior and convent and their successors make any default in the service according to the premisses, that then the said Prior and convent and their successors to loose iiijd. of silver for every default of every day, and that it be lawfull to the masters and wardens for the time being to keepe and retaine the said money for the said defaults. In witnesse whereof the common seale of the house of the said Prior and convent to this parte of the Indenture remaineing with the said Master and Wardens is putt and written the xth day of September, the yeare of the raigne of King Henry the seaventh the xxij, and the year of our Lord Jesus Christ 1506.-Recorder's Book, p. 132.

Overint universi per presentes me Margaretam White de Dublin in pura viduetate mea fecisse ordinasse et in loco meo posuisse dilectum mihi in Christo Johannem Finglas capellanum meum verum et legitimum atturnatum ad intrandum et seisinam et possessionem deliberandam Nicholao priori et conventui domus Omnium Sanctorum juxta Dublin in et de omnibus messuagiis terris tenementis reddittibus et serviciis pratis parcis pascuis et pasturis nemoribus virgultis et buscis cum omnibus commoditatibus et pertinenciis suis que habeo in villa de Calganiston in parochia de le Newcastle in comitatu Dublin. [Arbitration concerning Ballyoffryn.]

Ee it knowne to all men that this present writeing shall reade other heare that we Richard Skaret, Prior of the house of the blessed Trinitie within the cittie of Diveling, and John Wafer of the same, gentleman, arbitrators chosen and elected betwix Nicholas, Prior of the house of All Saints besides the aforesaid cittie, and the hold conwant of the same, with one assent, of the one part, and Pierce Walsh, sonn and heire to Morrish Walsh, sometime of Kilgoban, in the barony of Rathdowne, in the countie of Diveling, of the other parte, upon certaine variances and debates depending betwix the said Prior convent and the said Pierce, for a towne named Balloffryn, otherwise named Ballallice, Witnesseth that wee the said arbitrators by this our lawnde and warde awardeth the aforesaid Prior and convent to let the said towne to the said Pierce to ferme, his heirs and assignes, dureing the space of xxxi. yeares then next ensueing the date of this presentes fully to be compleated paying therefore, the said Pierce, his heires and assignes, to the said Prior and conwent and their successors yearely at the feast of All Saints, xl. of lawfull money, otherells a good fate marte and a good swyne at the aforesaid ffeast. Moreover, if the said Pierce his heires and assignes, do not content othere pay othere make to be paid to the said Prior conwant othere theire successors the aforesaid xli. of lawfull money, other a good fate marte and a good swyne, by three monthes after the said feast, that then it be lawful to the said Pierce his heires and assignes, to dowble the said x". of lawfull money, and by reason of nonpayment of the said xx. pound by the said three monthes, that then it be lawful to the said Prior conwant, other their successors, to reenter in the aforesaid towne, and the aforesaid Pierce his heires and assignes to voide and withdraw their hands from the said towne and no more to interrupte neither deale therewith without assent of the said Prior and conwent, and to thus our lawnde and warde wee the aforesaid arbitrators severally to thus presents putt our seales.
