London: JOHN MURRAY, Albemarle Stree

SERMONS TO SCHOOLBOYS: Twenty Short
delivered at Morning Prayers to the Three Schools of the
legiate Institution during the Years 1849-1857............

"FOR the most part these ser-

mons are based on the Collects
in the English Prayer-book, to the doctrinal
value of which one of them, we observe,
is devoted; national events of passing im-
portance also form the subjects of a portion
of them; and altogether they are of an emi-
nently practical character. Their mode of
thought and style of expression are equally
adapted to the capacity and understanding
of the young, whilst they are sufficiently
brief not to exhaust the attention. The
usefulness of such occasional addresses in
large schools can hardly be over-estimated.
We are grateful to Mr. Howson for this col-
lection, the fruits of which, let us hope, like
bread cast upon the waters, may be found
after many days." MORNING HERALD.
