We are told how the Jews will return to their land, it will be in a manner as miraculous as when they went out of Egypt into Canaan, chap. xi. 14, 15, 16, “But they fhall fly upon the fhoulders of the Philiftines towards the weft; they shall spoil them of the east together; they fhall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab ; and the children of Ammon fhall obey them. And the Lord fhall utterly deftroy the tongue of the Egyptian fea; and with his mighty wind fhall shake his hand over the river, and fhall fmite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dry fhod. And there fhall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which fhall be left from Affyria; like as it was to Ifrael in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt."

Thefe verfes fhew plainly that God will do the fame things for the Jewish nation when they come into their land again, that he did when he brought them from Egypt to Canaan, in ancient days.

This fubject is fpoken of in chap. lxii. 4, 8, 12, " Thou fhalt no more be termed, forfaken; neither fhall thy land any more be termed, defolate; but thou shalt be called, Hepzi-bah, [that is, my delight is in her] and thy land Beulah, [that is, married] for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land fhall be married. The LORD hath fworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his ftrength, furely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the fons of the ftranger fhall not drink thy wine for thee which thou haft laboured. And they fhall call them, the holy people, the redeemed of the LORD; and thou shalt be called, fought out, A CIT-Y NOT FORSAKEN."

It is not poffible for language to exprefs any thing. plainer than the return of the Jews is here defcribed.

1. The Jews and their land are both mentioned, onehas the promise of being never forfaken, and the other never defolate. Every perfon who confiders the present ftate of the Jews, knows that they are a forfaken people, and that their land is now defolate in a great measure,, werfe 4.

2. It is promised that they fhall then eat the fruit of their labours, now, in that land the man who fows is not certain to reap; but not fo when God makes the new covenant with the Jews; for God has promised that they fhall be called a city not forfaken, verse 8, 12.

This fubject is beautifully illuftrated in chap. lxvi. 10, 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, "Rejoice ye with Jerufalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her; rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her; that ye may fuck, and be fatisfied with the breafts of her confolations; that ye may milk out, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory. For thus faith the LORD, behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream; then fhall ye fuck, ye fhall be bourne upon her fides, and be dandled upon her knees; as one whom his mother comforteth, fo will 1 comfort you; and ye fhall be comforted in Jerufalem. For I knew their works, and their thoughts; it fhall come, that I will gather all nations and tongues; and they shall come and fee my glory. And I will fet a fign among them, and I will fend those that escape of them unto the nations, to TARSHISH, PUL, and LUD, that draw the bow, to TUBAL, and JAVAN, to the ifles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have feen my glory; and they fhall declare my glory among the Gentiles. And they fhall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations, upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon fwift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerufalem, faith the LORD, as the children of Ifrael bring an offering in a clear veffel into the house of the LORD. And I will alfo take of them for priests and for levites, faith the LORD. For as the new heavens, and the new earth, which I will make, fhall remain before me, faith the LORD, so fhall your feed and your name remain."

This prophecy exactly agrees with that in chapter 1x. and contains a farther defcription of the circumstances which fhall attend the return of the Jews.

1. As in the other chapter, fo here it is mentioned that at their return the Gentiles fhall fee God's glory a

mong the Jews, and that the glory of the Gentiles fhall come to them, verse 12, 19, in the other chapter it is said, “the forces of the Gentiles fhall come;" here it is faid, that the glory of the Gentiles fhall come like a flowing stream.

2. In the other chapter it is faid that when the Jews return to their land, they shall be brought in the arms and on the fhoulders of the Gentiles; and in fhips of Tarshish; here it is faid, they shall be brought upon horfes, in chariots, litters, on mules, and fwift beafts, from all nations to Jerufalem, verse 16, 20.

3. In the other chapter, it is declared to be as certain as the waters of Noah concerning the Jews returning and dwelling long in their own land: here it is faid to be as certain as the new heaven and earth which will be hereafter created, verfe 22.

How can any perfon read this chapter and doubt the return of the Jews to the land of Canaan !

It is certain that there has never any fuch thing taken place among the Jews, or any other nation as is mentioned in this chapter; therefore it is yet to come to pass. The LORD haften it in his time. Amen.

These quotations are a small part of what Isaiah has faid upon this glorious fubject; we will now fee what Jeremiah has faid concerning the return of the Jews.

In Jeremiah iii. 16, 17, 18, 19, it is faid; "And it fhall come to pass, when ye be multiplied, and increased in the land, in those days, faith the LORD; they shall no more fay, the ark of the covenant of the LORD, neither fhall it come to mind, neither fhall they remember it, neither fhall they vifit it, neither fhall that be done any more. At that time they fhall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations fhall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerufalem; neither fhall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart. In those days the houfe of Judah fhall walk with the house of Ifrael, and they fhall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers. But I faid how fhall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant

land, a goodly heritage of the hofts of nations? And I faid, thou fhalt call me, my FATHER; and shall not turn away from me.”

This prophecy evidently refers to the return of the Jews to their land in the latter days.

1. It is faid that when they are multiplied and increafed in their land, that they fhall fay no more about the ark of the covenant made at Sinai, it shall be forgotten; this has never yet been, the Jews to this day are all zealous of the law of Mofes and circumcifion, ver. 16.

2. The Prophet fays that at that time the house of Judah fhall walk with the houfe of Ifrael, and, that they thall come together out of the land of the north into the land which God gave Abraham, Ifaac and Jacob for an inheritance. This has never been, for the house of Judah and Ifrael have never walked together fince the days of Jereboam to this day, verfe 18.

3. The LORD afks how he can give them this land, which is now in the hands of other nations, fecing they have treacherously departed from the LORD as a wife treacherously departs from her husband? The answer is given, how it can be; "Thou fhalt call me my Father, and shall not turn away from me," verse 19.—This exactly agrees with what is faid in the new covenant in Hebrews viii. "I will be merciful to their unrighteouf nefs, &c."

Another account is recorded in Jeremiah, xvi. 14, 15, 16, "Therefore, behold, the days come, faith the LORD, that it fhall no more be faid, the LORD liveth that brought up the children of Ifrael out of the land of Egypt, but, the Lord liveth that brought up the children of Ifrael from the land of the north, and from all the lands whether he had driven them, and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers. Behold, I will fend for many fifhers, faith the LORD, and they fhall fifh them, and after will I fend for many hunters, and they fhall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks."

How exact this prophecy is with the one juft mentioned !

1. It was faid there that they fhould not fay the ark of the LORD; here it is faid they fhall no more fay the Lord liveth which brought them out of Egypt; but the Lord liveth that brought them out of the north countries and all places where they had been driven, ver. 14.

2. As in the third chapter; fo here it is faid, “I will bring them again into their land that I gave their fathers."

3. Ifaiah fays they fhall be fent for in all parts of the earth; here it is faid the fifhers fhall fifh for them, and that hunters fhall find them from the mountains, hills, holes, and rocks, verfe 16.

Another glorious prophecy of the return of the Jews, is recorded in Jeremiah xxx. 3, 8, 9, 10, 17, 18, 19, 22, "For, lo, the days come, faith the LORD, that I will bring again the captivity of my people Ifrael and Judah, faith the LORD; and I will caufe them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they fhall poffefs it. For it fhall come to pass in that day, faith the LORD of hofts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers fhall no more ferve themselves of him; but they fhall ferve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raife up unto them. Therefore fear thou not, O my fervant Jacob, faith the LORD, neither be difmayed, O Ifrael; for, lo, I will fave thee from afar, and thy feed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob fhall return, and be in rest and be quiet, and none fhall make himafraid. For I am with thee, faith the LORD, to fave thee; though I make a full end of all nations whither I have fcattered thee yet will I not make a full end of thee; but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished. For I will reftore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, faith the LORD; because they called thee an outcaft, faying, this is Zion, whom no man feeketh after. Thus faith the LORD, behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob's tent, and have mercy on his dwelling places; and the city fhall be builded upon
