filling the place with their dead bodies they will fay, "bleffed is he that cometh in the name of the LORD;" this Chrift has faid the Jews will fay when they fee him again.

4. After Chrift, (or Michael,) has judged this great army in this valley of decifion, he will then proceed to deftroy them; this will be done in feveral ways ;—first, he will fend lightning like arrows, to devour them. Zechariah ix. 14, " And his arrows fhall go forth as lightning." Second, the Lord will fight against them as he once fought in the day of Gibeon, when he threw hailfones upon them from heaven. Zechariah xiv. 3, "Then fhall the LORD go forth, and fight against thofe nations, as when he fought in the day of battle." This I think refers to the time when the fun flood ftill, at the command of Jofhua; it is faid at that time, "That the LORD 'calt down great ftones from heaven upon them unto Azekah, and they died; they were more which died with the halftones, than they whom the children of Ifrael flew with the fword," Jofhua x. 11. Third, they will, like the Midianites flay each other, Ezekiel xxxviii. 21, "And I will call for a fword against him (Gog) through out all my mountains, faith the LORD GOD, every man's fword fhall be against his brother." This is fpoken of the fame army. Fourth, the inhabitants of Jerufalem that are left, will flay fome of them, Zechariah xiv. 14, And Judah alfo fhall fight at Jerufalem; and the wealth of all the heathen round about shall be gathered together, gold, and filver, and apparel, in great abund ance. Fifth, those who are not deftroyed in these various ways will die with the plague, fo that there will fcarcely any efcape to tell the news in the countries they came from. Zechariah xiv. 12, "And this fhall be the plague wherewith the LORD will fmite all the people that have fought against Jerufalem; their flefh fhall confume away while they ftand upon their feet, and their eyes fhall confume away in their holes, and their tongue shall confume away in their mouth." Verse 15, "And fo fhall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the afs, and of all the beafts that shall be in thefe

tents." In Ezekiel it is faid, that this army fhould come on horfes; here it is faid,that not only the men but even the beafts fhould die with the plague; how dreadful must be their fituation when their flefh fhall confume away while they ftand upon their feet!-taken of a fudden, according to what is faid in chapter xii4, "And in that day faith the Lord, I will fmite every horfe with astonifhment, and his rider with madnefs." This peftilence is mentioned by Ezekiel, chap. xxxviii. 22, “And I will plead against him with peftilence and with blood."

5. After this great army is flain in this terrible manner, we are told what will be done with the dead bodies. Some of them will be devoured by ravenous birds, and fome of them will be buried. Some will be devoured by ravenous beasts. Ezekiel xxxix. 17, 18, 19, 20, “ And thou, fon of man, thus faith the LORD GOD, fpeak unto every feathered fowl, and to every beast of the field; affemble yourselves and come; gather yourfelves on every fide to my facrifice that I do facrifice for you, even a great facrifice upon the mountains of Ifrael, that ye may eat flesh and drink blood. Ye fhall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth, of rams, of lambs, and of goats, of bullocks, all of them fallings of Bafhan. And ye fhall eat fat till ye be full, and drink blood till ye be drunken of my facrifice which I have facrificed for you. Thus ye fhall be filled at my table with horfes and chariots, with mighty men, and with all men of war, faith the LORD GOD."

All this is fpoken of the army that came to Jerufalem which the LORD faid he would flay upon to mountains of Jerufalem. We are told in this chapter that those who are not eaten by the fouls and beasts fhall be buried in the land of Ifrael, and that they fhall be feven months in burying them, the number of the dead will be fo great, verfe 11, 12, " And it fhall come to pafs in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves, in the land of Ifrael, the valley of the paffengers on the east of the fea; and it fhall ftop the nofes of the paffengers; and there fhall they bury Gog, and his multitudes; and they fhall call it, the valley of Hamon-Gog-[The multitude

of Gog] And feven months fhall the houfe of Ifrael be burying them, that they may cleanse the land." How wonderful is the fpirit of prophecy! read, understand and believe what God has faid!

6. We are told that the bows, arrows, and handstaves which this army fhall leave will be fo numerous, that they will ferve the Jews for fuel in that mild climate for feven years, fo that they will have no occafion to go into the foreft to cut down any wood for fuel in all that time. Verfe 9, 10, " And they that dwell in the cities of Ifrael fhall go forth, and fhall fet on fire and burn the weapons, both the fhields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the hand-staves and the spears, and they fhall burn them with fire feven years; fo that they fhall take no wood out of the field, neither cut. down any out of the foreft; for they fhall burn the weapons with fire; and they shall spoil those that spoiled. them, and rob those that robbed them, faith the LORD GOD."

7. It appears from this chapter, that almoft the. whole of every nation that compofed this army, will come to Jerufalem, leaving only a few behind, called the fixth part, verfe 2, "And I will turn thee back, and I will leave but the fixth part of thee."

8. God's defign in all this is, to make himself known to the Jews, and in all the earth, as he did in Pharaoh when he rofe against God. The fudden and dreadful. overthrow of this great and powerful army, will found. through all the earth, and will prepare the way for the fpread of the knowledge of Jefus over all the earth.. This is mentioned in verfe 21, 22, 23, "And I will fet my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall fee my judgments that I have executed,and my hand that I have laid upon them. So the house of Ifrael fhall know that I am the LORD their Gop, from that day and forward. And the heathen fhall know that the house of Ifrael went into captivity for their iniquity."

We now see what will be done at the coming of Chrift; his enemies flain, the mountain parted, the Jews deliver

ed, and the way prepared for the fpread of the knowledge of Chrift over all the world, who is now come to reign on the earth a thousand years. Left fome fhould

doubt whether Chrift will ever appear and reign on the earth a thousand years, I fhall in the next Sermon mention the prophecies, which speaks of his coming, and what will be at that time.

"WE HAVE ALSO A MORE SURE WORD OF

PROPHECY," &c.

IN this Sermon will be noticed; The prophecies which speak of the coming of Chrift to reign upon the earth, with the circumftances of it, Sc..

N this Sermon, I shall first mention what is faid of this appearing of Christ,by the Prophets,by Christ, and the apostles.

The firft who fpake of the coming of Chrift to reign on the earth, was Enoch the feventh from Adam, Jude είν. 15, "Behold the Lord cometh with ten thousand of his faints, to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodlily committed, and of all their hard fpeeches which ungodly finners have fpoken against him.”

That this prophecy refers to the time when Chrift fball come to ftand on the mount of Olives, when the great army is gathered against Jerufalem, is plain by comparing this with what Zechariah has faid. Here it is faid, that he will come with ten thousand of his faints to execute judgment upon the ungodly; there it is faid, that he fhall come and all the faints with thee. Zech. xiv. 5, it is also faid, that at that time he will flay the wicked.

Another prophecy concerning the coming of Chrift to reign upon the earth, is recorded in Job xix. 25, 26, 27, "For I know that my REDEEMER liveth, and that he
