fall stand at the latter day upon the earth ; and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my Aesh Nall I see God; whom I shall fee for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another ; though my reign be consumed in me.”

It is very remarkable that Job should wish his words were printed in a book, that they might be preserved to the latest generation, long before printing was known ; but so it is-his desire is granted ; his words are printed in a book, and this is what he said, “I know my Re. DEEMER liveth,” &c. job knew that Christ would stand upon the earth in the latter days ; this cannot mean his being on the earth before he was crucified. Did Job then rise and fee him? We have no account of it. He had reference to the second coming of the son of man when he will come and all the saints with him ; Job with the rest, when they will reign with him a thousand years, It is particularly mentioned here, that Christ shall STAND upon the earth; this exactly agrees with what Zechariah fays upon the same subject; chap. xiv. 4, “ And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east.” Job knew he would stand upon the earth; and Zechariah tells us where he will stand, and that when he stands on that mount, (a place where Christ oft resorted) the mountain will cleave in the midit. Jesus ascended from this mount, and when he comes, it will be to that sanie place. This the angels have declared ; Acts, i, 9, 10, II, " And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their fight ; and while they looked stedfastly toward heaven, as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel ; which also said, ye men of Galilee why Itand ye gazing up into heaven? This fame Jesus which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." Christ ascended from the mount of Olives ; see verse 12, The angels said he would return in the same manner that he went from the earth. His feet will, without any doubt, stand in tlie fame place they did before he left the earth.

What is recorded in Psalm 1. 3, 4, I think refers to the fame thing. « Our God shall come, and shall not keep: silence; a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him. He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people."

I once thought this refered to the last Judgment; but I think that if any person compares this with what is said, concerning his bringing his enemies into the valley of de cision to plead with them by fire and sword, he will see that this refers to the same coming of Christ. That in Malachi, iii. 1, 2, 3, I think must have reference to the same. glorious event.

" And the LORD whom ye seek shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, 'whom ye delight in; behold he shall come, faith the Lord of hosts. But who may abide the day of his coming? And who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fuller's soap. And he shall set as a refiner: and purifier of silver, and he shall purify the fons of Le vi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD, an offering in righteousness. Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant un. to the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former ,

years."

It appears to me that this coming of the Messenger of: ,, the covenant, cannot refer to any other time than that when Chricomes to reign on the earth: for he is fpo. ken of as the messenger of the covenant, which is the new covenant, the one which will be made in that day. He is said to be the one they seek, and it is certain that the Jews still seek for their MESSIAH, and Have several." times thought they had found him. It is said he shall .. come suddenly into his temple; this has never been ; for when he went into the temple, it was so privately, that they searched to find him..

When he was on earth before, did he purify the fons of Levi? no ; but they filled up the measure of their cup,... and he saw them given over to hardness of heart and blindness of mind: The offering of Judah, since Christi

was upon earth, has never been pleasant as in the days of old; for instead of that, the daily facrifice has ceased for hundreds of years; but when he comes suddenly on the mount of Olives, for the relief of his people and the def. truction of his enemies, then will this prophecy be fulfil. led, and not before. Unless this is the meaning of this prophecy, I cannot tell where to place it; for it was not fulfilled when Christ was on earth, and it cannot be after the general judgment; therefore it must have reference to Christ's coming to be afwift witness against his enemics, and an helper to his friends. The words of Zechariah concerning the coming of Christ are remarkably, clear, Zech. xiv. 4, 5, 6 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east; and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof towards the east and towards the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain hall remove towards the north, and half of it towards the fouth.”_

Jesus Christ often spake to his disciples of this second coming to reign on the earth. Matthew xvi. 27, “ For the son of man fhall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then shall he reward every man accor. ding to his works.". People are generally taught that when Christ comes the world will be at an end ; but his coming will be before the end of the world; so the disciples understood it; Matth, xxiv, 3, “Tell us when bhall these things be? and what shall be the fign of thy coming,and of the end of the world? It is evident from this that they considered Christ's coming one thing and the end of the world another. I believe that when he comes agairi, he will finish all he has to do on earth, and the last thing will be the raising all the dead, judging them, and giving them a reward according to their works.

Jesus Christ was particular in telling his disciples that when he comes again he fhould be feen. Mark xiii. 26, And then they shall see the son of man coming in the clouds with power and great glory.” When Jesus was adjured by the high priest whether he was the son ofGod, he said ; Mark xiv. 62, “And Jesus said, I am; and ye shall see the son of man setting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven." By a cloud he was received out of the disciples fight, and on a cloud he will fhew himself when he comes again. .

The apostles have said muclf of this coming of Christ to reign on the earth. Paul has mentioned it in almoft every epistle he has written. He says, Coloffians ifi.-4, “When Christ, who is our life, fhall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory." Thessalonians i. 10,"And to wait for his son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.” In Chap. iii. 13, he mentions this coming of Christ with all his faints, in the fame manner as Enoch and Zechariah have. Enoch says he will come with ten thousands of his faints, Zechariah says he will come, and all the saints with him ; Paul says here ; " To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our LORD Jesus Christ with all his faints." This must refer to the time when Christ comes to the mount of Olives, see also chap. iv. 14, “ For if we believe that Jesus died, and rose again, even fo them also which sleep in Jefus will God bring with him.” In Paul's Epistle to Titus, this com. ing of Christ is mentioned. Titus ii. 13, “ Looking for that blessed hope, and glorious appearing of the great God, and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” Heb. ix. 28, “ And unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin 'unto salvation.” Many people think that the second coming of Christ has reference to his coming in the destruction of Jerusalem"; but did he then ap. pear on the mount of Olives? did the mountain part af. sunder? were the dead saints raised at that time was the Roman army destroyed then ? Did the Jews fight and obtain their wealth? Certainly these things did not take place then ; but to the contrary, the disciples Aed into the mountains, the Jews were slain or carried captive, and the army was victorious ; at the second coming of Christ all these things are to take place, to the joy of the saints, and the astonifhment and destruction of his ene. mies,

It is generally understood that John had the Revela. , tion of Christ on the isle of Patmos, after the destruction of Jerusalem, and in dat book, there is much said of this coming of Christ : the coming of Christ to destroy his enemies, raise the dead saints, and reign on the earth a

thousand years is mentioned fix times--Revelation i. 7, ..Behold he COMETH with clouds; and every eye shall

see him, and they also which pierced him; and all kin

dreds of the earth fhall wail because of him. Even so, : Amen." Chap. ii. 25, “ But that which ye have al. : ready, hold fast till I come.” Chap. iii. 11, 5 Behold, I

COME quickly; hold that falt which thou hast; that no : man take thy crown." Chap. xvi. 15, “ Behold, I COME · as a thief ; blessed is he that watcheth and keepeth his - garments." Chap. xxii. 7, “ Behold, I COME quickly;

blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.” Ver. 12, “And behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”. Ver 20, " He which testifieth these things faith, Surely I come quickly; Amen. Even so come LORD JESUS," It is certain that the scriptures mention the second coming of Christ to destroy an army which shall come against the Jews at Jerusalem, to raise the dead saints, and reign on the earth before the last Judgment; this has never been, and therefore is yet to come as these places of scripture abundantly prove.

That this coming will be a long time after the death of the apostles, is evident from what Peter says, the scoffers of the last day will say concerning this coming of Christ. 2 Peter ii. 3, 4, “ Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days, scoffers, walking after

their own lusts; and saying, where is the promile of his - coming ? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things con

tinue as they were from the beginning of the creation." If scripture is any proof of this second coming of Christ, here is certainly proof enough.
