support I desire to feel grateful to God, whose kind providence has supplied all my wants, and raised me up friends where I least expected to find them. My labors have been great the past year. I have had over four hundred meetings during the year, and I trust many souls have been converted, which is better to me than a salary of thousands. My family and myself have been blessed with health, and I desire to be thankful to God for all the blessings, spiritual and temporal, which he has bestowed upon me. As to the debts which I owe, in consequence of my failure in business some years ago, if ever able I shall pay them. My other debts are small, and I hope to be able to discharge them all. I feel confident that in leaving all to preach, I have done right. I acknowledge I am an imperfect man, subject to frailties, like others, and sanctified but in part; but I trust I can say I love God, and love Christ, and love Christians of all denominations, and love the world of mankind at large, and love my enemies, and love will give all who possess it a passport to heaven.

PREFACE.

[ocr errors]

I wish still to thank my good friends and brethren of all denominations, for purchasing my books, as it has assisted in the support of my family. Those who have a belief that God has called me to travel and preach, I shall still expect their favors. Those who read will also remember that my books cost money that the printer must have his pay, and my children must have bread. The Lord loves a cheerful giver. I am confident that those who read one half will read the other.

I have not been particular in this volume to notice every meeting I have attended; nor have I recorded every minute event from day to day, because it would have enlarged the book so much, that few would have been willing to pay for it. After the commencement of the reformation, I held seven hun

dred meetings in eighteen months; and among the different orders of people I have been cordially received, and have had some assistance from all. I trust not far from fifteen hundred persons have experienced a hope in Christ that he has changed their hearts, within the circuit which I have travelled during these last two years.
