PREFACE.

THE following Manual is intended for the daily use of those Churchmen who prefer the beautiful Prayers of our Liturgy, bearing as they do the sanction of the Church, to the many other forms of Family Prayer which are to be met with.

Besides the authority which these Prayers possess, two important advantages appear to arise from the disjointed form in which they are arranged. First, the attention is better kept alive, or recalled, if wandering, by the assent required to be given in the "Amen" at the end of each Prayer. And, secondly, the different acts of worship (such as Confession, Intercession, Thanksgiving,) are better marked, and therefore more intelligible, when separated by a definite break, than they can be when the whole service consists (as is the case in most Books of Family Prayer) of one long undivided Prayer.
