THE sun is hidden from our sight,
Good night! my father, mother, dear,
Good night! my friends, both far and near,
Good night! ye merry, merry birds,
To all my pretty flowers, good night!
The moon is lighting up the skies,
THE GOOD BOY'S HYMN ON GOING TO BED.
How sweet to lay my weary head
How sweet to hear my mother say,
How sweet it is my thoughts to send
How sweet to think that He whose love
Now the sun hath gone so rest,
Sweetly sings his evening hymn.
Have I tried mamma to mind?
JESUS, tender Shepherd, hear me ;
All this day thy hand has led me,
Let my sins be all forgiven,
Bless the friends I love so well;
GOD has kept me, dearest mother,
M. L. DUNCAN.
Let me thank him for his goodness,
For my home and friends I thank him,
If I have been kind and gentle,
If I've spoken what was true, Or if I've been cross and selfish, He has seen and known it, too.
Those I love he will watch over,
Though they may be far away, For he loves good little children, And will hear the words they say.
THOU, from whom we never part,
Listen to our evening prayer.
Father! fill our souls with love,-
Love that ever rests on thee.
EVENING HYMN. .
Heavenly Father! through the night
BEFORE I close my eyes to-night,
Let me myself these questions ask :
Nor thought my duty was a task?
Have I been gentle, lowly, meek,
And the small voice of conscience heard?
Have I with cheerful zcal obeyed
What my kind parents bid me do,
The thing that was not strictly true?
In hard temptation's troubled hour,
Then have I stopped to think and pray,
