CHAPTER 1.

AN ACT to amend an act, entitled "An act to incorporate the American
Legal Aid Society," approved January 30, 1878.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth

of Kentucky:

§ 1. That section 1 be amended by striking out the word Change the "legal," and substituting therefor the word "mutual."

§ 2. That section 4 is hereby repealed, and in lieu thereof the following is enacted, to-wit: "All applicants received as members in said society shall be in good health, and between the ages of 21 and 60 years."

§3. That section 5 is hereby repealed, and in lieu thereof the following is enacted, to-wit: "Applications for membership shall be made upon blanks furnished by the Society, and LOC. L., VOL. I.—1

Those entering between the ages of 21 and 30 shall constitute the first class; those entering between 30 and 40 years, the second class; those entering between 40 and 50 years, the third class, and those entering between 50 and 60 years, the fourth class."

§ 6. That section 9 is amended to read as follows: "Each Annual due, $2 member shall pay an annual due at the rate of $2, payable on the first day of January in each year."

That section 10 is hereby repealed, and in lieu thereof Assessment the following is enacted:" Upon the death of any member of the society, each surviving member may be assessed, and when assessed, shall pay to the secretary as follows: members of the first class, 90 cents; members of the second class, 95 cents; members of the third class, $1 15; and members of the fourth class, $1 80."

8. That the last clause of section 11, commencing " but any member having so forfeited his membership," &e., &c., is hereby repealed, and in lieu thereof the following is enacted:

But thereafter for thirty days, it shall be within the diseretion of the president to direct the secretary to receive all arrearages from any suspended member, and thereupon and thereby the said member shall be reinstated."
