CHAPTER 175.

AN ACT to authorize the counties of Muhlenburg and Butler to build a bridge across Muddy river, at or near the mouth of said river.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the counties of Muhlenburg and Butler are hereby authorized and empowered to build a bridge across Muddy river, at or near the mouth of said river, between the towns of Skylesville, in Muhlenburg county, and Rochester, in Butler county.

§ 2. That it may be the duties of the county courts of Muhlenburg and Butler counties, a majority of the justices concurring therein, at any regular court of claims of said counties, to appoint three commissioners each, whose duty it shall be to locate the site upon which said bridge is proposed to be built, a majority of whom may act. Said counties may proceed to build the bridge under the law as now exists in relation to building bridges between two counties: Provided, Said bridge shall not prevent the navigation of said river.

3. This act shall take effect from and after its passage. Approved February 9, 1880.

CHAPTER 176.

AN ACT to amend an act, entitled "An act to create and regulate the office of county treasurer for McCracken county." approved March 10, 1871.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the sixth section of an act, entitled "An act to create and regulate the office of county treasurer for McCracken county," approved March 10, 1871, be so amended as to strike from said section the word October wherever it occurs, and insert in its room and stead the word June; and also to further amend the seventh section of said act by striking out the word January where it occurs in said section, and in its room and stead insert the word June.

§ 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 177.

AN ACT for the benefit of the present assessor of Harrison county. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the assessor of the county of Harrison shall have the further time until the first day of June, 1880, and first day of June, 1881, to complete his list and return his tax-book to the county clerk of said county.

2. This act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 178.

AN ACT to extend the boundary of the city of Louisville. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the boundary of the city of Louisville shall be extended as follows, to-wit: Beginning at a point in the present city boundary line, where the same crosses or intersects the north line of east Broadway; thence with the northeasterly line of said street two hundred and forty two feet to a point in said north line of east Broadway; thence in a northeasterly direction one hundred and eighty feet to the south line of an alley; thence with the south line of the alley one hundred and sixty-six feet to the city boundary line.

§ 2. This act shall take effect from and after its passage. Approved February 9, 1880.

CHAPTER 180.

AN ACT authorizing the judge of the Hart county court to appoint a clerk for the Hart quarterly court.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the judge of the Hart county court may, by an order made of record in the Hart county court, appoint a clerk for the Hart quarterly court, who shall take the oaths prescribed by law to be taken by deputy clerks of county courts; and said clerk so appointed and sworn shall have authority to issue any process or precept of the said Hart quarterly court which the judge of said court is authorized

by law to issue: Provided, That the said judge as aforesaid shall, on his official bond, be responsible for the acts of said clerk, and may, by an order entered of record in the said Hart county court, remove said clerk at his pleasure. § 2. This act shall be in force from its passage.

CHAPTER 181.

AN ACT to amend section one, chapter 918, Session Acts, approved April 9th, 1878.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That section 1, chapter 918, Session Acts, approved April 9th, 1878, be, and the same is hereby, amended as follows, to-wit: by inserting after the word court, and before the word or, in the third line, the following words: county court, city court; and after the word malt, and before the word or, in the seventh line, the word vinous; and after the word liquors, in said line, and before the word while, in the eighth line, the words, or any mixture thereof, patent medicine, or drug of any kind.

CHAPTER 182.

AN ACT to authorize the trustees of the town of Stanford to subscribe to and pay for stock in a town hall company.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the trustees of the town of Stanford be, and they are hereby, authorized to subscribe stock to the extent of five hundred dollars in the capital stock of any company to be formed for the purpose of building a town hall in said town.

§ 2. That in order to pay said subscription, the trustees of said town are authorized and empowered, at their option, to issue and sell five bonds of said town, of one hundred dollars ●ach, bearing six per centum per annum interest from date, and payable at pleasure; but said bonds shall not be sold for less than their par value.

§3. This act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 183.

AN ACT to amend and reduce into one the acts relating to roads in Logan county.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That if the provisions of an act for the benefit of Meade and other counties in this Commonwealth, including the county of Logan, prescribing the mode of working and improving the roads in said counties, and passed at the present session of this Legislature, shall not have been adopted by the county of Logan in the time and manner prescribed in the said acts, before the meeting of the next court of claims to be held in said county of Logan, in the month of October, 1880, then the general provisions of an act, entitled "An act for the benefit of Union and Henderson counties, amending and reducing into one the acts relating to roads in said counties," passed at the last session of the Legislature of Kentucky, and approved March 15th, 1878, shall apply to the said county of Logan, but shall not be enforced therein unless a majority of the justices in commission at the said meeting in October next approve the same; and in case they shall so approve the same, then this act shall be enforced in the said county of Logan in the same manner and by the same officers and under the same rules, regulations, and penalties laid down in the act above herein referred to and recited.

§ 2. This act shall take effect from the date of the approval of the same at the said October term of the said Logan county court, as laid down herein.

CHAPTER 184.

AN ACT to amend an act, entitled "An act to incorporate the Young Men's Christian Association, of Louisville."

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the real and personal estate now owned or hereafter acquired by the Young Men's Christian Association of Louisville, Kentucky, and used by it for the purpose of car. rying out the objects of said corporation, shall, to the extent

of thirty thousand dollars in value, be exempt from all State
and city taxation, including taxes levied for the year 1880..
$2 This act shall take effect from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 185.

AN ACT to amend section eighteen of the charter of the city of Newport. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

1. That all appropriations for general and special purposes made by the city council of Newport, Kentucky, shall be paid only out of the revenues collected for the fiscal year in which such appropriations shall be made, and should any appropriations, contract, or liability be made in excess of such revenue, it shall be void as against said city, but binding upon the mayor if he shall sanction same by his signature, and jointly and severally upon the members of the board of councilmen who shall fail to record their votes against the same upon the journal. It shall be the duty of the city attorney to enforce this liabilty by suit or otherwise, in the name and for the benefit of any person or persons interested. § 2. This act to take effect from and after its passage. Approved February 10, 1880.

CHAPTER 186.

AN ACT to amend the charter of the city of Covington.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the city council of Covington shall annually, at Council may levy the request of the Covington school board, levy and collect for school pur- such taxes as may be requested, not to exceed twenty-five cents on the one hundred dollars valuation of all taxable property in the city; and annually a poll-tax of not exceeding two dollars on each male citizen over twenty-one years of age; and the money arising from said taxes shall, under the direction and control of the school board, be used for the benefit of the common schools of Covington precisely as the school funds are now required to be used, and for the purpose of paying off the indebtedness of the school board of the city
