and impartially discharge the duties of said office; and said trustees and their successors shall be a body-politic and corporate, and shall be known as the board of trustees of the town of Lewisburg, and by that name shall be capable of contracting and being contracted with, suing and being sued, of pleading and being impleaded, in all the courts of this State.

5. Said board of trustees shall, at their organization, elect one of their number chairman, who shall preside over the deliberations of said board when convened, and shall have power to convene the board in special session whenever he may deem it necessary. Said board shall have power and authority to fix and determine upon the time of its regular monthly meeting. Any and all business transacted at a call session shall be as valid as though done at a regular meeting.

§ 6. Said board of trustees shall have power over the streets, alleys, and sidewalks of said town, and may direct the improvement of the same, in such manner, and at such time or times, as they may think proper; and said board may pass and enact all laws and ordinances, and make such rules and regulations pertaining to said town and the better government thereof, as may to them seem proper, not in conflict with the Constitution of the United States or the Constitution and laws of this State.

§7. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 488.

AN ACT for the benefit of the Winchester Iron Works and Schollsville Branch Turnpike Road Company.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the officers of the Winchester Iron Works and. Schollsville Branch Turnpike Road Company may erect on their road a toll-gate néar Bethlehem Church, and charge thereat tolls as permitted to be charged by them by law in proportion to the distance traveled: Provided, The person or

persons has not and does not intend to pass through the other toll gate on said road.

§ 2. This act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 489.

AN ACT to extend the time for the completion of the Alexandria and Flag
Springs Turnpike, in Campbell county.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth

of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the Alexandria and Flag Springs Turnpike Company. in Campbell county, have the further time of ten years to complete said road.

§ 2. This act to take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 490.

AN ACT to prevent the sale of spirituous, vinous. or malt liquors within two miles of Elizabeth Church, in Grant county.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That it shall be unlawful for any person to sell or vend any spirituous, vinous, or malt liquors, or any mixture of either, in any quantity, within two miles of Elizabeth Church, in Grant county.

2. If any person shall violate the provisions of the first section of this act, such person, on conviction thereof before any court of competent jurisdiction, shall, for each violation of said section, be fined fifty dollars.

§3. This act shall be in force from and after its passage. Approved March 20, 1880.

CHAPTER 491.

AN ACT to amend the charter of the town of Lawrenceburg. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That section one of an act, entitled "An act to amend and reduce into one the several acts in relation to the town

of Lawrenceburg," be so amended as to read as follows, viz: That the corporate limits of the town of Lawrenceburg, Anderson county, be, and are hereby, established as follows, viz in the form of a square, whose sides shall run north, south, east, and west, and measure one thousand yards, and whose centre shall be the public well on the corner of Main and Jackson streets in said town.

§ 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from its passage.

CHAPTER 492.

AN ACT appointing commissioners to re-plat the town of California, in Cam: b ll county!

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

1. That J. M. Morgan, John W. Boots, and J. C. DeMoss, together with the surveyor of Campbell county, are hereby appointed commissioners, with power to re-plat the incorporated town of California, in said county, and have the same duly recorded in the county clerk's office.

$2 All acts in conflict are hereby repealed, and this act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 493.

AN ACT to repeal an act, entitled "An act to change the time for holding the county court of Woodford county," approved February 19th, 1880. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That an act, entitled "An act to change the time for holding the county court of Woodford county," approved February 19th, 1880, is hereby repealed.

§ 2. This act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 494.

AN ACT to amend the charter of the Glencoe and Sugar Creek Turnpike Company, in Gallatin county.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That section two of an act, entitled "An act to incorporate the Glencoe and Sugar Creek Turnpike Company," approved April 10, 1878, in Gallatin county, be amended by substituting the word and figures 1880 or 1881, for the word and figures 1878 or 1879.

§ 2. This act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 495.

AN ACT for the benefit of the Bloomfield and Springfield Turnpike Road Company.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the Bloomfield and Springfield Turnpike Road Company shall have the further time of ten years, from and after the passage of this act, to complete their said road

§ 2. That all acts done by the president and directors of said company, in accordance with powers conferred on them by the original charter of said company, be, and the same are hereby, legalized.

§3. This act shall take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER 496.

AN ACT to amend an act, entitled "An act to incorporate the Harrodsburg and Cornishville Turnpike Road Company," approved March 4th, 1856. WHEREAS, The incorporated company known as the Harrodsburg and Cornishville Turnpike Road Company, under the above name, and by the authority given them by an act of the Legislature, enacted and approved March 4th, 1856, with its amendments thereto, have built and constructed a turnpike road from Harrodsburg to Cornish ville, in Mercer county; and whereas, said company now desires to extend and construct said turnpike road from Cornishville, in said county,

to the cross-roads, about one and one half miles above Willisburg, on the Macksville and Willisburg Turnpike Road, in Washington county. In order to give full power to said turnpike road company to build and construct said extension,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That so much of an act, entitled "An act to incorporate the Harrodsburg and Cornishville Turnpike Road Company," be, and the same is hereby, so amended as to enable said company to extend said road from Cornishville, in Mercer county, to the cross-roads, about one and one half miles above the town of Willisburg, on the Macksville and Willisburg Turnpike Road, in Washington county.

§ 2. That section two of said act be so amended as to increase the capital stock of said company from twenty thousand dollars to forty thousand dollars, and to reduce the shares of stock in said company from fifty dollars to twenty-five dollars for each share.

§3. That section three be so amended, that where it reads fifty dollars for each share," it shall read "twenty-five dollars for each share.”

4. That section four be so amended as to read, "nine directors," instead of "five," as provided therein, four of whom shall be chosen from the county of Washington.

35. That section five be so amended as to allow the whole width of said extension not to be more than thirty feet, and that portion covered with metal not more than fourteen feet wide; and that said company shall have the right to erect toll-gates thereon, being governed in the number and their location by the general laws now regulating the same.

§ 6. That section eight be added to said act creating said company, and shall be as follows: That in order to carry out this amendment, said company shall have full power to take, in writing, the release of such lands as shall be necessary for the right of way and toll-houses, and may condemn lands for the purpose herein stated, in the way and manner now prescribed by the laws of this Commonwealth. That said company shall, by their president, issue certificates of stock in said turnpike road company to subscribers, on the payment of said subscriptions; and it shall and may be lawful for the judge of the Washington county court, a majority of the jus
