art, to be found in the United States. For all kinds of book, job and poster printing, lithographing, engraving and electrotyping and the manufacture of blank books, this department has long merited and received a generous share of public patronage. Its workings are comprehensively illustrated by the accompanying representations of the various branches. In successive pictures are shown the Counting Room of the Job Department, the general Job Composing Room, the Book Composing Room, the Poster Room and Card Press Room, the general Job Press Room and the Book Bindery. In these subdivisions of the department there are employed in the aggregate over 100 persons. All the machinery and implements of every description are of the newest pattern and design, and the work done is of the highest order.

To supply the motive power for the great perfecting presses, the score or more job presses and other shafting and machinery of the establishment, there are in the basement three immense engines. The three compartments into which the engineering section is divided are admirably exhibited in the illustrations. The main engine room furnishes the power as a rule; the second engine, beside serving auxiliary purposes, can, as occasion requires, be made to move all the shafting in the building, while the third engine transmits the necessary force to the dynamos from which the EAGLE manufactures its own electricity for illuminating the office. The electric light, which is generated from machinery supplied by the United States Illuminating Company, extends throughout the building and has proved a great success in every respect. Its introduction, although accomplished at a very liberal expenditure, has been abundantly justified by the experance of the 300 or more people engaged in making the EAGLE from day to day. Beside the advantages of the electric light it must be mentioned that the building in all departments is heated by steam pipes. A recently introduced convenience in the establishment is a restaurant and lunch room, where employees are enabled to obtain luncheon from an experienced caterer at a nominal charge.

The last of the illustrations presents a view of the EAGLE Branch Office, at No. 44 Broadway, in the Eastern District. This branch was established several years ago for the convenience of our neighbors in a section which, though remote from the office, is noted for its enterprise. In nothing has the enterprising character of the people there been more adequately demonstrated than the readiness with which they have availed themselves of the advantages derivable from the extension of our advertising and publication facilities in the direction indicated. They have, in company with their fellow-citizens throughout the city, shown that the progressive spirit manifested by the EAGLE has everywhere met with popular appreciation and approval within the boundaries of Brooklyn.
