Happy is the man, who, like Job, "is old, and full of days;" and is ready to leave this world for a better. When the voice is heard that calls him into eternity, he will say, as Simeon did, “Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, for mine eyes have seen thy salvation!" 12

STORY X.

THE KING AND THE FALSE PROPHET.

PART I.

BALAK, the king of Moab, heard that the people of Israel were coming near his country, and he and his subjects were very much afraid; for they had been told how, by the help of their God, they had cut off many wicked nations.

The king did not know what to do; but after thinking some time, he resolved by some craft to get their God not to care for them any longer; and then he thought he could do what he pleased with them.

He had heard of a famous man, who pretended to be religious, whose name was Balaam; he lived at a great distance from Moab. This false teacher,
