Chap. 518. AN ACT to allow and empower the trustees of PASSED April 28, 1870; three-fifths being present. The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows: SECTION 1. The trustees of school district number two of Dryden and Caroline, Tompkins county, are hereby allowed and empowered to rent the upper rooms of the school-house in said district for other than school pur- poses, by obtaining the written consent of a majority of the taxable inhabitants of said district. 2. It may take by gift, grant, bequest and devise, and hold real and personal estate in trust for any purpose of education, art, health, charity and amusement; for parks, gardens and grounds for the burial of the dead and other public use, and for the erection of statues, monuments and public buildings, upon such terms as may be prescribed by the grantor or donor and accepted by said corporation; and the said corporation may commit the care and management of such trust property to three or more electors of said city, to be appointed by the mayor, by and with the advice and consent of the common council, and to hold their office five years, unless sooner removed for cause, after a hearing, and who shall not receive any compensation for their services. And it may do every thing necessary to carry into effect the powers granted to it. Management of trust property. Boundaries of city. § 2. The city shall be bounded as follows: Beginning at the northwest corner of the Jones tract, New York State reservation, on the east bank of the Niagara river, and running thence northeasterly along the northwesterly bounds of the said Jones tract to the northeasterly corner thereof; thence southeasterly, along the northeasterly bounds of the said Jones tract and the New York State reservation line, the following courses and distances, to wit: South, forty-four degrees east, two chains and ten links; south, forty degrees east, twenty chains; south, thirty-five degrees east, seven chains; south, thirty degrees east, seven chains; south, twenty five degrees east, seven chains, and south twenty degrees east, one chain and eighty-three links to the northwesterly corner of township number eleven, in the eighth range of townships of the Holland Land Company's survey; thence easterly along the northerly line of said township to the northeasterly corner thereof; thence easterly along the northerly line of lot number sixty-six of the eleventh township and seventh range to the northeasterly corner of said lot number sixty-six; thence southerly along the easterly line of said lot number sixty-six to the southeasterly corner thereof; thence easterly along the southerly line of lots numbers sixty-five, fifty-eight, fifty-seven and fifty-six, to the southeasterly corner of said lot fifty-six; thence southerly along the easterly line of lots numbers forty-six, forty five, forty-four, forty-three, forty-two and forty-one, to the southwesterly corner of lot number thirty-two and the southeasterly corner of lot number forty-one, in said lastmentioned township; said corners being also a point in the northerly line of the Buffalo Creek Indian reservation, as surveyed by James Sperry, eight chains and eighty-two links easterly from the northwesterly corner of lot number one hundred and forty-eight and one-half; thence south, one degree and fifty-one minutes west, two hundred and eighty-eight chains and seventy-four links, to a point in the southerly line of lot number two hundred and seventy-five of said reservation, and eighteen chains and forty-eight links easterly from the southwesterly corner of said lot number two hundred and seventy-five; thence westerly along the southerly line of lots numbers two hundred and seventy-five, two hundred and sixty-four, two hundred and sixty-three and fortytwo, to the southwesterly corner of said lot number fortytwo; thence westerly, on the same course as the last described line, to the westerly line of the State of New York; thence northerly along said westerly line of the State of New York, to a point in Niagara river, at right angles with the easterly shore opposite the place of beginning; and thence in a right line easterly to the place of beginning. 83. The city shall be divided into thirteen wards, Division bounded respectively as follows: FIRST WARD. into thirteen wards, All that part of the city of Buffalo included within the First ward, bounds of said city, as incorporated and bounded by an act passed April twentieth, eighteen hundred and thirtytwo, and which lies southerly of a line beginning at the intersection of the original eastern bounds of said city within the center of Porter street, running thence westerly and along the center of Porter street to the center of Hamburg street; thence southerly along the center of Hamburg street to the south bounds of the Main and Hamburg Street canal; thence westerly along the south bounds of said canal to the center of Chicago street; thence northerly along the center of Chicago street to the center of Exchange street; thence westerly along the center of Exchange street to the center of Main street; thence southerly along the center of Main street to the Second ward. Third ward. Fourta ward. Fifth ward. center of Buffalo Creek; thence westerly along the center SECOND WARD. All that part of the city bounded northerly by the center of Eagle street, easterly by a line commencing at the intersection of the center of Pine street with the center of Eagle street, running thence southerly and along the center of Pine street to the center of Swan street; thence westerly along the center of Swan street to the center of Chicago street; thence southerly along the center of Chicago street to the center of Exchange street; southerly by the center of Exchange street and westerly by the center of Main street, shall be denominated the second ward. THIRD WARD. All that part of the city bounded northerly by the center of Eagle street; easterly by the Buffalo Creek Reservation tract; southerly by a line extending through the center of Porter street from the Buffalo Creek Reservation tract to the center of Hamburg street; thence southerly along the center of Hamburg street to the south bounds of the Main and Hamburg Street canal; thence extending westerly along the south bounds of said canal, to the center of Chicago street, and bounded westerly by the second ward, shall be denominated the third ward. All that part of the city bounded northerly by the center of Goodell street; easterly by the center of Michigan street; southerly by the center of Eagle street, and westerly by the center of Main street, shall be denominated the fourth ward. FIFTH WARD. All that part of the city comprised within the following limits, shall be known as the fifth ward: commencing in the center of Michigan street at its intersection with the center of Eagle street; thence easterly, along the center of Eagle street to the line of the Buffalo Creek reservation; thence northeasterly along said line to the center of Clinton street; thence easterly along the center of Clinton street to the easterly bounds of the city; thence northerly along the said bounds to the center of Batavia street; thence westerly, along the center of Batavia street to the center of Michigan street, and thence southerly, along the center of Michigan street, to the center of Eagle street, the place of beginning. SIXTH WARD. All that part of the city bounded northerly by the Sixth ward. center of Genesee street; easterly by the easterly bounds of the city; southerly by the center of Batavia street, and westerly by the center of Michigan street, shall be denominated the sixth ward. SEVENTH WARD. ward. All that part of the city bounded northerly by the Seventh southerly bounds of lot number forty, in township eleven and range eight, until it strikes the westerly bounds of lot twelve, thence southerly, along the westerly bounds of lots numbers twelve, eight, seven and six of said township and range, to the southerly bounds of lot number six; thence east, along the southerly bounds of lot number six, to Genesee street; southerly by the fourth and sixth wards; and westerly by the center of Main street, shall be denominated the seventh ward, EIGHTH WARD. All that part of the city bounded southerly and easterly Eighth by the first ward; westerly by the west bounds of the ward. State; and northerly, northeasterly and northwesterly by a line commencing at the intersection of the center of Main street with the center of the Terrace; running thence westerly and northwesterly along the center of the Terrace and Sixth street, to the northwesterly line of York street; thence southwesterly, and along the last mentioned line, to the southwesterly termination thereof; thence due west, to the west bounds of the State, shall be denominated the eighth ward. NINTH WARD. All that part of the city bounded easterly by the center Ninth ward. of Main street; southerly and southwesterly by the eighth ward; northwesterly by the northwesterly line of York street, and northeasterly by a line commencing at the intersection of the center of Main street with the center of Huron street; thence running westerly along the center of Huron street to its intersection with a line drawn |
