GAL. iv. 6: Because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the spirit of his son into your hearts, crying Abba, Father. TITUS, iii. 5: According to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.

9 MAL. iii. 3: And he shall sit as a refiner of silver: and he shall purify the Sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. LUKE, iii. 17.

as chaff that the storm carrieth away. Ps. i. 4: The ungodly are not so; but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. MAL. iv. 1: For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. MAT. xiii. 30: Let both grow together until the harvest and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn. MARK, ix. 44: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

CHAP. IV.

1 Christ fasteth, and is tempted. 11 The angels minister unto him. 13 He dwelleth in Capernaum, 17 beginneth to preach, 18 calleth Peter, and Andrew, 21 James, and John: 23 and healeth all the diseased.

THEN was Jesus led up of the 'spirit into

well pleased. JOHN, i. 32, 33: And John bare record, saying, I saw the spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him. And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost. JOHN, iii, 34: For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

▾ JOHN, xii. 28: Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

CHAP. IV.

So the vision that I had seen went up from me. do. xl. 2: In the visions of God brought he me into the land of Israel, and set me upon a very high mountain, by which was, as the frame of a city on the south. do. xliii. 5: So the Spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house. ACTS, viii. 39, 40: The Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more. But Philip was found at Azotus.

HEB. iv. 15; We have not an High-Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities: but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

5 Then the devil taketh him up into the 'holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Sou of God, cast thyself down for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash' thy foot against a

7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. 10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence,

e DEUT. viii. 3: Man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live. WISD. xvi. 26: That thy children, O Lord, whom thou lovest, might know that it is not the growing of fruits that nourisheth man: but that it is thy word which preserveth them that put their trust in thee.
