17 Wherefore in all things it behoved 10 him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.

CHAP. III.

1 Christ is more worthy than Moses: 7 therefore if we believe not in him, we shall be more worthy punishment than hardhearted Israel. WHEREFORE, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and

HEB. iv. 15, 16: For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. do. v. 2: Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. do. vii. 25: Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

CEPH. V. 2: Walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. HEB. ii. 17, 18: In all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted. do. iv. 14, 15: Seeing then that we have a great High Priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. do. v. 1, 2, 5: For every High Priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an High Priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. do. vi. 20: Jesus, made an High Priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. do. vii. 26, 28: Such an High Priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens. For the law maketh men High Priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore. do. viii. 1, 3, 4: We have such an High Priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. Every High Priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer. For if he were on earth, he should not be a Priest, seeing that there are Priests that offer gifts according to the law. do. ix. 11, 14: Christ being come an High Priest of good things to come-Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God. do. x. 21: Having an High Priest over the house of God.
