ETHIOPIC AND COPTIC BIBLICAL MSS. (Eighth Century.) The Ethiopic version of the Old Testament is considered to have been made entire copy of the Coptic Bible, is stated to be in the possession Ethiopic and Coptic Biblical MSS. The Ethiopic version of the Old Testament is considered to have been made from the Septuagint, as early as the fourth century. The Psalms were published at Rome in 1513, by Potken, and were subsequently reprinted by Bishop Walton in his Polyglot Bible. The British Museum possesses but very few (six) Ethiopic MSS. The only known entire copy of the Coptic Bible is stated by M. Quatremere to be in the possession of M. Marcel. The great resemblance between the Coptic characters (which supplanted those of Ancient Egypt) and those of the Greek alphabet will not fail to attract attention.
