»3 Be faithful to thy neighbour in his poverty, that thou mayest rejoice in hit prosperity ■ abide stedfast unrn him in the time of histrouble, that thoumayest be heir with him in his heritage: for a mean estate is not al ways to be contemned: nor the rich that ii foolish to be bad in admiration.

adulterous nutfejinntth many -ways.

OLORD, Father and Governor of all my whole life, leave me not to their, counsels, and let me not fall by them.

» Who will set scourges over my thoughts, and the discipline of wisdom over mine heart? that they spare me not for mine ignorances, and it pass not by my fins:

3 Lest mine ignorances increase, and my tins abound to my destruction, and J fall before mine adversaries, and mine enemy rejoice over me, whole hope is far from thy mercy.

4 O Lord, Father and God of my life, give me not a proud look, but turn away from thy servants always a haughty mind.

5 Turn away from me vain hopes, and concupiscence, and thou (halt hold him up that is desirous always to serve thee.

6 Let not the greediness of the belly j<>r imt or the Huh take hold of me; and

give not over me thy servant into an impudent mind.

7 Hear, O ye children, the discipline; of the mouth: he that keepeth it shall never be taken in his lips.

8 The sinner (hall be left in his foolishness: both the evil (peaker and the proud (hall fall thereby.

9 Accustom not thy mouth to swearing; neither use thyselt to the naming of the Holy One.

10 For as a servant that is continually beaten (hall not be without a blue mark: so he that sweareth and nameth God continually sha.l not be faultless.

n A man that uscth much swearing shall be filled with iniquity, and the plague shall never depart from his house: if be shall offend, his fin (hall be upon him: and if he acknowledge not his (in, he maketh a double offence: and if he sware in vain, he shall not be innocent, but his house (hall be full of calamities.

12 There is a word that is clothed itbout with death: God grant that it be not found in the heritage of Jacob; for all such things shall be far from the godly, and they (hall not wallow in their fins.

13 Use not thy mouth to intemperate swearing, for therein is the word of sin.

14 Remember thy father and thy mother, when thou fittest among great men. Be not forgetful before them, and so thou by thy custom become a fool, and wish that thou hadst not been born, and curse the day of thy nativity.

15 The man that is accustomed to opprobrious words will never be reformed all the days of his life.

i6Two forts of men multiply sin, and the third will bring wrath: a hot mind is as a burning fire, it will never be quenched till it be consumed: a fornicator in the body of his flesh will never cease till he hath kindled a fire.

17 All bread is sweet to a whoremonger, he will not leave off till he die.

18 A man that breaketh wedlock, saying thus in his heart, Who sceth me? I amcompafsed about with darkness, the walls cover me, and no body sceth me; what need I to tear? the most High will not remember my sins:

19 Such a man only fcareth the eyes of men, and knoweth not that the eyes of the Lord are ten thousand times brighter than the fun, beholding all the ways of men, and considering the most secret parts.

21 This man lhall he punished in the streets of the city, and where he suipecteth not he shall be taken.

22 Thus it shall go also with the wife that leaveth her huiband, and bringeth in an heir by another.

»3 H For first, (lie hath disobeyed the law of the most high; and secondly, she hath trespassed against her own husband; and thirdly, she hath played the whore in adultery, and brought children by another man.

24 She shall be brought out into the congregation, and inquisition shall be made of her children.

25 Her children shall not take root, and her branches shall bring forth no fruit.

26 She shall leave her memory to be cursed, and her reproach lhall not be blotted out.

27 And they that remain shall know that there isnothingbetter than the fear of the Lord, and that there is nothing sweeter than to take heed unto the commandments of the Lord.

28 It is great glory to follow the Lord, and to be received of him is long life.

WISDOM lhall praise herself, and shall glory in the midst ot her people.

a If In the congregation of the most High shall she open her mouth, and triumph before his power.

31 came out of the mouth of the most High, and covered the earth as a cloud.

4 % I dwelt in high places, and my throne is in a cloudy pillar.

51 alone com passed the circuit of heaven, and walked in the bottom of the deep.

6 In the waves of the sea, and in all the earth, and in every people and nation, I got a possession.

7 With all these I sought rest: and in whose inheritance shall I abide?

8 So the Creator of all things gave me a commandment, and he that made me caused my tabernacle to rest, and i.tid, Let thy dwelling be in Jacob, and thine inheritance in Israel.

9 He created me from the beginning biforctiie world, and I shall never fail.

10 In the holy tabernacle I served before him; ami so was i'established in Sion. ,

gave me rest, and in Jerusalem was my power.

11 And I took root in an honourable people, even in the portion of the Lord's inheritance.

13 H I was exalted like a cedar in Libanus, and as a cypress tree upon the mountains of Hermon.

14 I was exalted like a palm tree in Engaddi, and as a rose plant in Jericho, as a fair olive tree in a pleasant field; and grew up as a plane tree by the water.

15 I gave a sweet smell like cinnamon and aspalathus, and I yielded a pleasant odour like the best myrrh, as galbanum, and onyx, and sweet ftorax, and a» the fume of frankincense in the tabernacle.

16 As the turpentine tree I stretched out my branches, and my branches are the branches of honour and grace.

17 1 As the vine brought 1 forth pleasant savour, and my flowers are the fruit of honour and riches.

18 I am the mother of fair love, and fear, and knowledge, and holy hope: I therefore, being eternal, am giveD to all my children which are named of him.

19 Come unto me, all ye that be desirous of me, and fill yourselves with my fruits.

20 For my memorial is sweeter than honey, and mine inheritance than the honeycomb.

21 They that eat me shall yet be hungry, and they that drink me shall yet be thirsty.

22 He that obeyeth me shall never be confounded, and they that work by ice lhall not do amiss.

23 All these things are the book of the covenant of the most high God.rtvo the law which Moses commanded for an heritage unto the congregations of Jacob.

24 Faint not to be strong in the Lord; that he may confirm you, cleave unui him: for the Lord Almighty is GcA alone, and beside him there is no other Saviour.

31 I said, I will water my best garden, and will water abundantly my garden bed: and, lo, my brook became a river, and my river became a sea.

3z 1 will yet make doctrine to mine as the morning, and will fend forth her light afar off.

3 3 1 will yet pour out doctrine a< prophecy, and leave it to all ages for ever.

CHAP. XXV. I What tkingi are beautiful, and what

hateful. 1} Xot/11/ig is worse than a

•wicked woman.

IN three things I was beautified, and stood up beautiful both before God and men: the unity of brethren, the love of neighbours, a man and a wife that agree together.

a Three forts of men ray foul hatetb,, and I am greatly offended at their life: a poor man that ic proud, a rich man that lsaliar.andanoldadulterertbatdoateth.

3 If thou hast gathered nothing in thy youth, how canst thou rind any thing in thine age?

4 O how comely a thing is judgement for gray hairs, and for ancient men to know counsel 1

5 O how comely is the wisdom of old men, and understanding and counsel to men of honour!

6 Much experience is the crown of old men, and the fear of God is their glory.

7 There be nine things which I have judged in mine heart to be happy, and the tenth I will utter with my tongue: a man that hath joy of his children; and he that liveth to fee the fall of his enemy:

8 Well is him that dwelleth with a wife of understanding, and that hath not Hipped with his tongue, and that hath not served a man more unworthy than himself:

9 Well is him that hath found prudence, and he that speaketh in the ears of them that will hear:

10 O how great is he that findeth wisdom! yet is there none above him that fcareth the Lord.

17 The wickedness of a woman changeth her face, and darkeneth her countenance like sackcloth.

18 .Her husband sliall fit among his neighbours; and when he heareth it sliall ligii bitterly.

19 All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman: let the portion of a sinner fall upon her.

20 As the climbing up a sandy way it to the feet of the aged, so is a wife full of words to a quiet man.

21 Stumble not at the beauty of a woman, and defire her not for pleasure.

a» A v.oman.if lhe maintain her husband, is full of anger, impudence, and mush reproach.

a 3 A wicked woman abateth the courage, maketh an heavy countenance and a wounded heart > a woman that will not comfort her husband in distress maketh weak hands and feeble knees.

24 Of the woman came the beginning of sin, and through her we all die.

25 Give the water no passage; neither a wicked woman liberty to gad abroad.

BLessed is the man that hath a virtuous wife, for the number of his days shall be double..

6 But a grief of heart and sorrow Is a woman that is jealous over another woman, and a scourge of the tongue which communicateth with all.

15 A shamefaced and faithful woman is a double grace, and her continent mind cannot be valued.

16 As the fun when it ariscth in the nigh heaven; so is the beauty of a good wile in the ordering of her house.

18 For as a man hath destroyed his enemy t so hast thou lost the love of thy neighbour.

19 As one that letteth a bird go out of bis hand, so hast thou let thy neighbour go, and shalt not get him again.
