AND the whole congregation of tha children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle osebe congregation there. And the land Jus subdued before them.

4 Give out from among you three aien for each tribe: and I will fend them, md they mall rife, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they lhall come again to me.

through the land, and describe it, and come again to me, that 1 may here cast lots for you before the Lor D in Shiloh.

9 And the men went and palled through the land, and described it by cities into seven parts in a book, and came again to Joshua to the host at Shiloh.

to *\ And Joshua call lots for them in Shiloh before the Lor D t and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.

11 And the lot of the tribe of the chil dren of Benjamin came up according to their families: and the coast of their lot came forth between the children of J udah and the children of Joseph.

ix And their border on the north side was from Jordan: and the border went up to the fide of Jericho on the north side, and went up through the mountains westward; and the goings out thereof were at the wilderness ot Bethaven.

Ij And the border went over from thence toward Luz, to the side of Luz, which is Beth-el, southward; and the border descended to Ataroth-adar, near the hill that Heth on the south side of the nether Bcth-horon.

14. And the border was drawn thence, and compassed the corner of the sea southward, from the hill that Heth before Beth-horon southward; and the goings out thereof were at Kirjathbaal, which is Kirjatli-jearim, a city of the children of Judah. This <was the west quarter.

15 And the south quarter ova/ from the end of Kirjath-jearim, and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah 1

16 And the border came down to the end of the mountain that Heth before the valley of the son of Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of Jebusi on the south, and descended to En-rogel,

17 And was drawn from the north, and went forth to En-sliemefh, and went forth toward Geliloth, which is over against the going up of Adummim, and descended to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben,

18 And passed along toward the side over against Arabah northward, and went down unto Arabah j

19 And the border passed along to the side of Beth-hoglah northward: and the outgoings of the border were at the north bay of the salt sea at the south endof Jordan, This wo* tin- south coalt.

CHAP. XIX. The lot of Simeon, 10 ofZebulun, 17 of IJsachar, 14.0s Asher, 52 of Naphtali, 40 and of Dan. 49 The children of Israel give an inheritance to Joshua. kND the second lot came forth to V Simeon, even for the tribe of the ildren of Simeon according to their -nilies : and their inheritance \v:i., wit lithe inheritance of the children of dah.

2 And they had in their inheritance, :er-slieba, Sheba, and Moladah,

3 And Hazar-stiual, and Balah, and tern,

4. And Eltolad, and Bethul, and Horih,

5 And Ziklag, and Beth-marcaboth, d Hazar-fusah,

6 And Beth-lebaoth, and Sharuhen; irteen cities and their villages:

7 Ain, Remmon, and Ether, and han; four cities and their villages:

8 And all the villages that -were round ■jut these cities to Baalath-beer, Raith of the south. This is the inheritce of the tribe of the children of Siion according to their families.

12 And turned from Sared eastward toward the sunriling, unto the border of Chifloth-tabor, and then goeth out to Daberath, and goeth up to Japhia,

13 And from thence paiseth Oh along on the east to Gittah-hepher, to Ittahkazin, and goeth'out tQ Kemmon-methoah to Neah;

47 And the coast of the children of Dan went out too little for them: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Lefhem, and took it, and (mote it with the edge of the sword, and possssled it, and dwelt therein, and called Lesliem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

48 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the childrenof Dan according totheir families, these cities with their villages.

4^ tj When they had made an end of dividing the land tor inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them:

50 According to the word of the Lord, they gave him the city, which he asked, even simnath-serah in mount Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein.

51 These are the inheritances which Eleazar the priest, and Jolhua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the childrenof Israel, divided for an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the Lor D, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. So they made an end of dividing the country.

C H A P. XX.

I God commandeth, 7 and the Israelite/

appoint fix cities of refuge.

THE Lor D also spake unto Joshua, saying,

x Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

1 That the flayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

4 And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city; they (hall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

5 And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the flayer up into his hand: because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.

6 And he shall dwell in that city until he stand before the congregation for judgement, and until the death of the high priest, that shall be in thole days; then shall the slayer return and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

7 % And they appointed Kedesti in Galilee in mountNaphtali.andShechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjath-arba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.

8 And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Balkan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

all the children of Israel, and for the ftranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

C H A P. XXI. I Eight and forty cities given by lot out of the other tribes unto the Leuites. 43 Go J gave the land and rest to the Israelites.

THEN came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Ekaz.tr the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel;

a And they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, The Lo n i> commanded by the hand of Moses, to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle.

3 And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the Lord, these cities and their suburbs.

4 And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, ivhick ivere of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

5 And the rest of the children of Kohath /W by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Minasseh, ten cities.

6 And the children of Gerlhonhadby lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Afher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in B.iflian, thirteen cities.

7 The children of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities

8 And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites thesecities with their suburbs, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses.

9 And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name,

10 Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, nv/w •were of the children of Levi, had: for tin ir's was the first lot.

11 And they gave them the city of Arba, the father of Anak, which city is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with the suburb* thereof round about it.

it For they gave them Shechem with her suburbs in mount Ephraim, to be a city of refuge for the slayer j and Gezer with her suburbs,

11 And Kibzaim with her suburbs, and Beth-horon with her suburbs; fourcities.

16 All the cities ivere ten with their suburbs for the families of the children of Kohath that remained.

4.5 There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lo a D had spoken unto the haute of Israel; all came to pass.

CHAP. XXII. ; The tzm tribe 1 and half sent home. 10 They build an altar of testimony in their journey. 11 Contention thereupon.

THEN Josliua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe at Manasseh,

* And said unto them, Ye have kept tH that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you:

\ Ye have not left your brethren these ■ iiny day* unto this day; but have kept

the charge of the commandment of the Lord your God.

4 And now the Lord your God hath giren reft unto your brethren, as he promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tcnts,«w./unto the land of your pollemon, which Mofcs the servant of the Lord gave you on the other fuse Jordan.

5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord charged you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all hit ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your foul.

6 So Jolhua blessed them, andsent them away: and they went unto their tents.

7 Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh Moles had given pofsejfion in Baslian: but unto the other half thereof gave Joshua among their brethren on this side Jordan westward. And when Jolhua lent them away also unto their tents, then he blessed them,

S And he spake unto them, saying, Return with much riches unto your tents, aud with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much raiment: divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

9 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which it in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the Lor D by the hand of Moses.

10 «J And when they came unto the borders of Jordan that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and tha half tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by Jordan, a great altar to see to.

it fs And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.

i» And when the children of Israel heard os it, the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war against them.

13 And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Reuben and to the
