14 Yea, they Ihallnotbe planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their Itock Ihafl not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they (hall wither, and the whirlwind (hall take them away as stubble.

15 To whom then will ye liken me, or (hall I be equal? faith the Holy One.

16 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them al! by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong ia power; not one faileth.

17 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the Lor D, and my judgement is pasted over from my God?

*8 Hast thou notknown? hast thou not heard, that th'„- everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth fainteth not, neither is weary ? there is no searching of his understanding.

zq He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he mercaseth strength.

CHAP. XLI. 1 God ixpofiulatcthnuiih his people about his mercies to the church, 1 o and about his promises, at and about the vanity of idols. KEEPsilcnce before me, O islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let us come near together to judgement, a Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made hon rule over kings ? he;;ave them as the dull to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow.

3 He pursued them, and passed safely; ran by the way that he had not gone with his feet.

4 Who hath wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I the Lord, the first, and with tiie last; I am he.

6They helped every one his neighbour; and everyone said to his brother, Be of good courage.

181 will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

6 I the Lo R. D have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

8 I am the Lo R D: that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

14.1 have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: noiv will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.

1 j I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.

16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them,and not forsake them.

17 They sliall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trail in graven images, that fay to the molten images, Ye are our gods.

19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind a the Lord's servant?

ro An exhortation to f raise God.

BEHOLD my iervant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in ivhom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him; he sliall bring forth judgement to the Gentiles.

2 He (hall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

3 A bruised reed flull he not break, and the smoking flax (hall he not quench: he (hall bring forth iudgement unto truth.

4. He sliall not fail, nor be discouraged, til! lie have,set judgement in the earth: and the isles sliall wait for his law.

5 f Thus faith God the Lo R D , he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, aud

iiButthisi/apeoplerobbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses; they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none faith, Restore.

13 Who among you will give ear to thii? tufa will hearken and hear for the time to come?

1+ Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers > did not the Lord, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.

CHAP. XLIII. 1 the Lord comsorteth the church with his promises. 14. Hefortelleth Babylon's defiru3ion; 18 and hispeople's deliverance.

BUT now, thus faith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

2 When thon passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and throngh the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither (ball the flame kindle upon thee.

1 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt/"<*■ thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

♦ Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will Igive men for thee, and people for thy life,

£ Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy feed from the east, and gather thee from the west;

*I will fay to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;

7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

* Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.

9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: *ho among them can declare this, and mewus former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be "stified; or let them beai\ andsay, ft is truth. 7

10 Ye are my witnesses, faith theLORB, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no god formed, neither (hull there he after me.

18 fl Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.

19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it (hall spring forth; shall ye no(t know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

10 The beasts of the field shall honour me, the dragons and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.

23 Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither halt thou honoured me with thy lacrific»i. T have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense.

24. Thou hast brought me no sw*et cane with money, neither halt tlicu silled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hart made me to serve with thy sins, thou haft wearied me with thine iniquities. ,.

thee, and formed thee from the womb,

16 He burneth part thereof in the fire. with part thereof he eateth flefli; lie roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and faith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:

17 And the residue thereof he maketb

2 I will go before thee; and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou niayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, «m the God of Israel.

4- For Jacob my servant's fake, and Israel mine elect: I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

8 Drop down, ye heavens, from above, sad let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the Lord have created it.

17 But Israel shall be saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation; ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

18 Forth us faith the Lo R D , that created the heavens; God himself, that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lot. D ; and there is none else.

19 I have not spoken in (erres, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

20 fl Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.

21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient times* viho hath told it from'that time? have
