3 And when me could not longer hide him, (he took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child therein; and (he laid it in the flags by the river's brink.

4. And his sister stood afar oft", to wif what would be done to him.

5 »fl And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to warn herself at the river;' and her maidens walked along by the river's fide: and when (he saw the ark among the flags, (he sent her maid to fetch it.

6 And when slie had opened it, (he saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And (he had compassion on him, and said, This is tut of the Hebrews' children.

7 Then said his sister to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that (be may nurse the child for thee?

% And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. 'And the maid went, and called the child's mother.

9 And Pharaoh's daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And'the woman took the child, and nursed it.

I o And the child grew, and (he brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And (he called his name Moses: and (he said, Because I drew him out pf the water.

II And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on flieir burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

j* And he looked this way, and that way, and when he saw that there ivas no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.

13 And when he went out the sccpnd day, behold, two men of the Hebrews strove te-gether; and he said to him that

did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?

14. And he said, Who made thee a priuce and a judge over us? intendest thou to kill me as thou killedst the Egyptian? and Moses seared, and said. Surely this thing is known.

15 fj Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to stay Moses. But Moses sled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land ot Midian: and he fat down by a well.

16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

17 And the (hepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How is it that ye are come so soon to day >

19 And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the (hepherds, and alto drew -water enough for us, and watered the flock.

so And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.

11 And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zip. porah his daughter.

sx And (he bare him a son, and he called his name Gersliam: for he said, I have been a stranger in a strange land. _ 23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried; and their cry cam; up unto God by reason of the bondage.

»+ And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

15 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God had respect unto them.

CHAP. III. 1 Moses keepeth Jethro's flock, x God ap

peareth unto him in a burning bujh. 9

Hesendeth him to deliver Israel.

NO W Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the back fide of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

z % And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bu(h burned with ire, and the bufli was not consumed.

Ii And Moses did unto God, who am I, that I ihould go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?

14 And God sitid unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus (hah thou lay unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

15 AndGod laid moreover unto Moses, Thus (halt thou fay unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers, tiie God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and tiie God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: (kU it my name for ever, and this

11 And they shall hearken to thy voice: and thou (halt come, thou and the elders of Israel, unto the king os Egypt, and ye (hall say unto him, The Lord God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go, we beseech thee, three days journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God. 19 And I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no not By a mighty hand.

so And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midlt thereof: and after that he will let you go.

11 A'nd I will give this people favour in the fight of the Egyptians: and it (hall come to pass, that when ye go, ye (hall not go empty:

22 But every woman (hall borrow of her neighbour, and of her {hat sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye (hall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye (hall spoil the Egyptians.

CHAP, IV, 1 Moses rod is turned into a serpent. 6 His hand it leprous, ax God's mejfagt to Pharaoh.

AND Moses answered and said, But, behold, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, the Lord hath not appeared unto tliee.

a And the Lord said unto him, What is that in thine hand? and he said, A rod.

3 And he said, Cast it on the ground. And he cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent; aud Moses fled from before it.

4. And the Lo R n said unto Moses, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand:

6 fl And the Lord said furthermore unta him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, his hand ivas leprous as snow.

7 And he said, Put tliine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again j and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

8 And it (hall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.

9 Aiid it ihaVl come to pass, if they will not believe also these two.signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou malt take of the water of the river, and pour it upon the dry land: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry land.

Io And Moses said unto the Lor n,O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant; but I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.

i r And the Lord laid unto him, Who liath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the Lord?

ii Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.

13 And he said, O my Lord, send, I pray thee, by the hand of him •whom thou wilt send.

_J4 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and he laid, Is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee; and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.

j 5 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy m outh, and with his mouth, and will teac h you what ye Avail do.

16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, even he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.

17 And thou sh alt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.

18 And Moses went and .returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which are in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And Jetiiro said to Moses, Go in peace.

io And the Lor D said unto Moses ia Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all the men are dead which sought thy life.

zo And Mofc took his wife and his sons, and set them upon an ass, and he returnedtothelandosEgypt. And Moses took the rod of God in his hand.

2i fl And the Lord said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, fee that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go.

'22 And thou shaft say unto Pharaoh, Thus faith the Lor D, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

x3 And I say unto thee, Let my son go, that he may serve me: and if thou refuse to let him go, behold, I will flay thy son, even thy firstborn.

14. And it came to pass by the way in the inn, that the Lord met him, and sought to kill him.

25 Then Zipporah took a sharp stone, and cut off the foreskin of her son, and cast it at his feet, and said, Surely a bloody husband art thou to me.

26 So he let him go; then she said, A bloody husband thou art, because of the circumcision.

27 And the Lord said to Aaron, Go into the wilderness to meet Moses. And he went and met him in the mount of God, and kissed him

28 And Moses told Aaron all the words of the Lor D, who had sent him, and all the signs which he had commanded him.

29 And Moses and Aaron went, and gathered together all the elders of the children of Israel:

30 And Aaron spake all the words which theLoR D had spoken unto Moses, and did the signs in the fight of the people.

31 And the peoplebelieved: and when they heard that the Lord had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

AND afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus faith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

9 Let there more worlrbe laid upon the men, that they may labour therein: and let them not regard vain words.

lo And the talkmafters of the people wea;oot, and their officers, and they fwke to the people, saying, Thus faith jfbaraah, I will not give you thaw.

li Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work fluli be diminished.

i» So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt, to gusher stubble instead of straw.

i j And the taskmasters hasted them, faying, Fulfil your works, your daily talks, as when there was straw.

14. And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had fet over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your talk in making brick, both yefteTday and to day, as heretofore?

15 Then the officers of the children of Uriel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saving, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

16 There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they fay to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants arr beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.

17 But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle-, therefore ye say, Let us go, and do sacrifice to the Lo K D .

ll Go therefore ntfw and work; for there (hall no straw be given you, yet Ihall ye deliver the Jale os bricks.

22 fl And Moles returned unto the Lord, and laid, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil intieated this people? why is it that thou hast lent me?

23 For since I came to Pharaoh t» speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither halt thou delivered thy people at all.

THEN the Lord said unto Moses, Now (halt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand Ihall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his laud.

2 And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the Lord:

J And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

4. And I have also established my cavenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.

5 And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage: and I have remembered my covenant.

6 Wherefore fay unto the children of Israel, I am the Lor D, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of tlie Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage: and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with greut judgements.

7 And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the Lor D your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear, to give it to Abiahain, to Isaac, and to Jacob: and I will give it you for an heritage: 1 am the Lord.

9 And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel; but they hearkened not

unto unto Moses, for anguish of spirit, and for emel bondage.

16 €J And these are the names of the sons of Levi, according to their generations; Gerlhon, and Kohath, and Merari: and the years of the life of Levi •were ah hundred thirty and seven years.

17 The sons of Gerlhon; Libni, and Shimi, according to their families.

18 And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel: and the years>of the life of Kohath were an hundred thirty and three years.

19 And the sons of Meran; Mahali, and Mufhi: these are the families of Levi, according to their generations.

»o And Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and (he bare him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram tvere an hundred and thirty and seven years.

az And the sons of Uzziel; Milhael, and Elzaphan, and Zithri.

Z3 And Aaron took him Elifheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Naaflion, to wife; and she bare him Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

a+ And the sons of Korah; Astir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph: thtse are the families of the Korhites.

15 And Eleazar Aaron's son took him «ne of the daughters of Puticl to wife; and ihe bare him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites, according to their families.

AND the Lor D said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother (nail be thy prophet.

I Thou (halt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother lhall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land.

j And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

4 But Pharaoh (hall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt, by great judgements.

5 And the Egyptians sliall know that lam the Lord, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel horn among them.

6 And Moses and Aaron did as the Lord commanded them, so did they.

7 And Moses <was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.

8 And the Lo P. D spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

9 When Pharaoh fhall(peak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou (halt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it (hall become a serpent.

10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the Lord had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
