SECTION I.

MESSIAH'S ADVENT GENERALLY.

John xii. 31, 32.-Now shall the prince of this world be cast out. And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me. 1 John iii. 8.—For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

Matthew ii. 1, 2.—Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa, in the days of Herod, the King, behold there came wise men from the East to Jerusalem, saying, Where is He that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen His star in the East, and are come to worship Him.3

1 Corinthians xv. 20.-But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

Deuteronomy xviii. 18-19.-I will raise th from among their brethren like unto thee.

I Fearfully indeed was the sinful blindness and unbelief of their rejection of Messiah "required of them" in the terribl their city and nation, as foretold with such accuracy and particulars in Deut. xxviii. 49-68, and by our Lord. See

Hebrews i. 5.--For unto which of the angels said He at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee?

Hebrews x. 4-7.-For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when He cometh into the world He saith, Sacrifice and offering Thou wouldest not, but a body hast Thou prepared me: in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin Thou hadst no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do Thy will, O God.

Psalm xl. 9-10.

I have preached righteousness in the great congregation:
Lo, I have not refrained my lips, O Lord, Thou knowest.

I have not hid Thy righteousness within my heart;

I have declared Thy faithfulness and Thy salvation:

I have not concealed Thy loving-kindness and Thy truth from the great congregation.

Psalm xlv. 1.—

My heart is inditing a good matter :

I speak of the things which I have made touching the king.

6.-Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever:

The sceptre of Thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

7. Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: Therefore God, Thy God, hath anointed Thee

With the oil of gladness above Thy fellows.

Psalm lxxii. 1—2.1—

Give the king Thy judgments, O God,

And Thy righteousness unto the king's son.

He shall judge Thy people with righteousness,

And Thy poor with judgment.

14. He shall redeem their soul from deceit and violence:

And precious shall their blood be in His sight.
