EXPLANATORY NOTE.

Plate V is printed at the expense of the Society, from a drawing on the stone by Mr. Gregson; the Hilbre Cross and ancient Crotal are lent by the Rev. A. Hume, D.C.L., the Honorary Secretary. All the other Illustrations are furnished at the Society's expense, from original drawings or materials supplied by the respective authors.
