4 est in truth. Greater joy have I none than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.
5 Beloved, thou doest a faithful work in whatsoever thou doest
6 toward them that are brethren and strangers withal; who bare witness to Ihy love before the church: whom thou wilt do well to
7 set forward on their journey worthily of God: because that for the sake of the Name they went forth, taking nothing of the
8 Gentiles. We therefore ought to welcome such, that we may be fellow workers with the truth.
9 I wrote somewhat unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth
10 to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. Therefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he doeth, prating against us with wicked words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, und them that would he forbiddeth, and casteth them out of the
11 church. Beloved, imitate not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: he that doeth evil hath
12 not seen God. Demetrius hath the witness of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, we also bear witness; and thou knowest that our witness is true.
13 I had many things to write unto thee, but I am unwilling to write
14 ihem to thee with ink and pen: but I hope shortly to see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be unto thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.
THE GENERAL EPISTLE OP
1 Judas, a servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for
2 Jesus Christ: Mercy unto you and peace and love be multiplied.
3 Beloved, while I was giving all diligence to write unto yon of our common salvation, I was constrained to write unto you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once
4 for all delivered unto the saints. For there are certain men crept in privily, even they who were of old set forth unto this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciv iousness, and denying our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
5 Now I desire to put you in remembrance, though ye know all things once for all, how that the Lord, having saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
6 And angels which kept not their own principaUty, but left Iheii proper habitation, he hath kept in everlasting bonds under dark
7 ness unto the judgement of the great duy. Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication, and gone alter strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment
8 of eternal fire. Yet in like manner these also in their dreamings defile the flesh, and set at nought dominion, and rail at dignities.
9 But Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him
10 a railing judgement, but said, The Lord rebuke thee. But these rail at whatsoever things they know not: and what they understand naturally, like the creatures without reason, in these things
11 are they destroyed. Woe unto them! for they went in the way of Cain, and ran riotously in the error of Iialaam for hire, and
12 perished in the gainsaying of Korah. These are they who are hidden rocks in your love-feasts when they feast with you, shepherds that without fear feed themselves; clouds without water, carried along by winds; autumn trees without fruit, twice dt n 1,
13 plucked up by the roots; wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the blackness of darkness
14 hath been reserved for ever. And to these also Enoch, the seventh, from Adam, prophesied, saying, Behold, the Lord came with
15 ten thousands of his holy ones, to execute judgement upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their works of ungodliness which they have ungodly wrought, and of all the hard things
16 which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their lusts (and their mouth speaketh great swelling words), shewing respect of persons for the sake of advantage.
17 But ye, beloved, remember ye the words which have been
18 spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; how that they said to you, In the last time there shall be mockers, walking
19 after their own ungodly lusts. These are they who make scpara
20 tions, sensual, having not the Spirit. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most hoi}- faith, praying in the Holy Spirit,
21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of
22 our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some have mercy,
23 who are in doubt; and some save, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear; hating even the garment spotted by the fle9h.
24 Now unto him that is able to guard you from stumbling, and to set you before the presence of his glory without blemish in
25 exceeding joy, to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and power, before all time, and now, and for evermore. Amen. '«
S. JOHN THE DIVINE.
1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to shew unto his servants, even the things which must shortly come to pass: and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant
2 John; who bare witness of the word of God, and of the testi
3 mony of Jesus Christ, even, of all things that he saw Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things which are written there in: for the time is at hand.
4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from him which is and which was and- which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth Unto him that
6 ioveth us, and loosed us from our sins by his blood; ar.d he made us to be a kingdom, to be priests unto his God and Father- to him
7 be the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Behold, he cometh with the clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they which pierced him; and all the tribes of the earth shall mourn over him. Even so, Amen.
8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, saith the Lord God, which is and which was and which is to come, the Almighty. ..,
9 I John, your brother and partaker with you in the tribulation and kingdom and patience ichie/i are in Jesus, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God and the testimony
10 of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, nnd I heard bell hind me a great voice, as of a trumpet saying, What tkou seest, write in a book, and send it to Hie seven churches; uu to Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamum, and unto Thyatira,
12 and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea. And I turned to see the voice which spake with me. Ard having^
13 turned I saw seven golden candlesticks; and in the midst of the candlesticks one like unto a son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about at the breaste with a golden
14 girdle. And his head and his hair were white as white wool,
15 white as snow; and his eye3 were as a flame of Are; and liis feet like unto burnished brass, as if it had been refined in a fur
16 pace; and his voice as the voice of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun
17 shineth in his strength. And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as one dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying. Fear
18 not; I am the first and the last, and the Living one; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive for evermore, and I have the keys
19 of death and of Hades. Write therefore the things which thou sawest, and the things which are, and the things which shall
'21 come to pass hereafter; the mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks are seven churches.
2 To the angel of the church in Ephesus write;
These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, he that walketh in the midst of the seven golden candle
2 sticks: I know thy works, and thy toil and patience, and that thou canst notbearevil men, and didst try them which call them
3 selves apostles, and they are not, and didst find them false; and thou hast patience and didst bear for my name's sake, and hast
4 not grown weary. But I have this against thee, that thou didst
5 leave thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I come to thee, and will move thy candle-stick out of its place, except thou repent.
6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the works of the Nicolaitans,
7 which I also hate. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will 1 give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the Paradise of God.
8 And to the anget of the church in Smyrna write;
These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and
9 lived again: I know thy tribulation, and thy poverty (but thou art rich), and the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and
10 they are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Fear not the things which thou art about to suffer: behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give
11 thee the crown of life. He that bath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.
12 And to the angel of the church in Pergamum write;
13 These things saith he that hath the sharp two-edged sword: I know where thou dwellest, even where Satan's throne is: and thou holdest fast my name, and didst not deny my faith, even in the days of Antipas my witness, my faithful one, who was killed among
14 you, where Satan dwelleth. But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there some that hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to cast a stumblinghlock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit forni
15 ration. So hast thou also some that hold the teaching of the
16 Nicolaitans in like manner. Repent therefore; or else I come to thee quickly, and I will make war against them with the
1? sword of my mouth. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches. To him that overcometh, to him will I give of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and upon the stone a new name written, which no one knoweth but he that receiveth it.
1,8 And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write;
These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like a flame
19 of (ire.and his feet are like unto burnished brass: I know thy works, and thy love and faith and ministry and patience, and that thy
20 last works are more than the first. But 1 have, tlm against thee, that thou sufferest the woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess; and sheteacheth and seduceth my servants to commit
21 fornication, and to eat things sacrificed to idols And I gave her time that she should repent; and she willeth lot to repent of her
22 fornication. Behold, I do cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent
23 of her works. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto each one of you according to
24 your works. But to you I say, to the rest that are in Thyatira. as many as have not this teaching, which know not the deep things
„- of Satan, as they say; I cast upon you none other burden.
2(, Howbeit that which ye have, hold fast till I come. And he
that overcometh, and he that keepeth my works unto the end, to
27 him will I give authority over the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron, as the vessels of the potter are broken to
28 shivers; as I also have received of my Father: and I will give
29 him the morning star. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.
3 And to the angel of the church in Sardis write:
These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars: I know thy works, that thou hast a name that
2 thou livest, and thou art dead. Be thou watchful, and stablish the things that remain, which were ready to die: for I have found
3 no works of thine fulfilled before my God. Remember therefore how thou hast received and didst hear; and keep it, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come as a thief, and thou
4 shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. But thou . hast a few names in Sardis which did not defile their garments:
5 and they shall walk with me in white; for they are worthy. He that overcometh shall thus be arrayed in white garments; and I will in no wise blot his name out of the book of life, and I will
6 confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.
7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write;
These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and none shall shut, and that shut
