HE readers of this and the former editions

will perceive the publisher not behind hand in the gratitude he owes them he has added to this edition above forty 'pages of new matter, which will be found equally worthy of their patronage and attention. He has not now a doubt remaining but this selection will place his gratitude for the COUNTENANCE with which his. READERS have honoured him, in the most pleasing and conspicuous point of view: and that it will, every hour, like the returning light of Heaven, dispel the mists of error and insensibility from the soul, and illume the glorious prospea of virtue and humanity to be the chief adiniration of mankind.

'HE admirers of Sterne are as numerous as

the Editor judged when he sat down to see lect his beauties, Seven large Editions have now paffed the Press, which, in fo short a time, is a striking test of its superior excellence over every other selection of profe beauties extant.

Two pleasing Epitaphs from the Annual Register, are introduced into this Edition, which, with the pieces prefixed to the former Editions, are the best poetic productions that have yet appeared in praise of this favourite Author.
