John vii. 1. p. 231. 126 51 1 Mat. And when his disciples were come to the other side,

they had forgotten to take bread,
18 141 Mar. Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread,

ar. Neither had they in the ship with them more than

one loaf.
Mar. And he charged them, saying, Take heed,

Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of

the leaven of Herod.
Mat. Then Jesus said unto them, Take heed,

And beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and

of the Sadducees. Mat. And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is

because we have taken no bread.
Mar. And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is

because we have no bread.
Mar. And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them,

Why reason ye, because ye have no bread?
Mat. Which, when Jesus perceived, he said unto them,

O ye of little faith, why reason ye among your

selves because ye have brought no bread? Mat. Do ye not understand, neither remember

The five loaves of the five thousand, and how

many baskets ye took up ? Mar. Perceive ye not yet, neither understand ? have ye

your heart yet hardened? Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye hot? and do ye not remem,

When I brake the five loaves among five thợusand, how many baskets full of fragments took

ye up? Mar. They say unto him, Twelye. Mat. Neither the seven loaves of the four thousand, and

how many baskets ye took up?
Mar. And when the seven among four thousand, how many

baskets full of fragments took ye up?
And they said, Seven. .
And he said unto them, How is it that ye do not un-
derstand?

How is it that ye do not understand ?
Mat. That I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye

should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of
the Sadducees? Then understood they how that he
bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of
the doctrine of the Pharisees, and of the Sadducees.

Sect. 69. Jesus cures a blind man near Bethsaida.
Mar. And he cometh to Bethsaida, &c. to verse 27.
Sect. 70. In the country of Cæsarea Pbilippi, Jesus bestows

on Peter the power of the keys, and foretels bis

own sufferings the second time. See 9 20.72. Mar. And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the towns of Cæsarea Philippi :

Mat. (Wheri Jesus came into the coasts of Cæsarca Philippi,

As he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them,

And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou

art the Christ. Mat. He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am ?

And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art

Christ the Son of the living God.
Mat. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art

thou, Simon Bar-jona: for Alesh and blood hath not
revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in hea.
ven. And I say also unto thee, that thou art Peter,
and upon this rock I will build my church ; and the
gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will
give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven :
and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth, shall be
bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose

on earth, shall be loosed in heaven. Mat. Then charged he his disciples, that they should tell

no man that he was Jesus the Christ. Mar. And he charged them that they should tell no man

of him. 21 Luke And he straitly charged them, and commanded them

to tell no man that thing. 22 Luke Paying, The Son of man must suffer many things,

And be rejected of the elders, and chief priests, and scribes,

And be slain, and be raised the third day. Mar. And he began to teach them, that the Son of man Imust suffer many things,

And be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes,

And be killed, and after three days rise again,
Mat. From that time forth began Jesus to shew umto his

disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and
suffer many things

him, and began to rebuke him.
Mat. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him,
Mat. Saying, Be it far from thee, Lord ; this shall not be

unto thee.
Mat. But he turned and said unto Peter,

Get thee behind me, Satan; thou art an offence

unto me. Mar. But when he had turned about, and looked on his

disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying,

Mar. For thou savourest not the things that be of God,

But the things that be of men.

Sect. 71. In the country of Cæsarea Philippi Jesus de-

clares that he will judge the world,
Mar. And when he had called the people unto him, with
Inis disciples also, he said unto them,

Whosoever will come after me, let him deny
himself,

And take up his cross, and follow me.
Mat. rhen said Jesus unto his disciples,

If any man will come after me, let him deny
himself,

And take up his cross, and follow me. 9 23 Luke And he said to them all,

If any man will come after me, let him deny himself,

And take up his cross daily, and follow me.
24 Luke For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it:
| But whosoever will lose his life for my sake,

The same shall save it.
35 Mar. For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it :

But whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and
the gospel's,

The same shall save it.
Mat. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it:

And whosoever will lose his life for my sake,

Shall find it.
Mat. For what is a man profited, if he shall gain

The whole world, and lose his own soul?

And bringeth them upinto an high mountain,apart, Mat. And was transagured before them, and his face did shine as the sun,

And his raiment was white as the light. .
Mar. And he was transfigured before them.

And his raiment became shining, exceeding 'white as snow: so as no fuller on earth can

white them. 29 Luke And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was

altered,

And his raiment was white and glistering.
wat. And behold there appeared unto them Moses and

Clias talking with him.
Mar. And there appeared unto them Elias, with Moses,

and they were talking with Jesus.
3o Lakeland behold, there talked with himn two men, which

were Moses and Elias.

Who appeared in glory,
Luke And spake of his decease which he should accom-

plish at Jerusalem. But Peter, and they that were
with him, were heavy with sleep; and when they
were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men
that stood with him.

Luke And they feared as they entered into the cloud. 35 Luke And there came a voice out of the cload, saying,

This is my beloved Son, hear him.
Mar. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying,

This is my beloved Son, hear hin.
Mat. And behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said,

This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well

pleased; hear ye him. Mat. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their

face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and

touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. Mat. Ind when they had lift up their eyes, they saw no

nan save Jesus only. Mar. And suddenly, when they had looked round about,

they saw no man any more, save Jesus only with

themselves. 36 Luke And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. Mat. And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man,

Until the Son of man be risen again from

the dead. Mar. And as they came down from the mountain, he charzed them

That they should tell no man what things they had seen,

Till the Son of man were risen from the

dead. -|Luke And they kept it close, and told no man in those

days any of those chings which they had seen, 101 Mar. And they kept that saying with themselves.
