16 No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up, taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

17 Neither do men put new wine into ald bottles: elfe the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perith: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preferved.

18 While he fpake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, faying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and the fhall live.

19 And Jefus arofe, and followed him, and fo did his difciples.

AND it came to pafs, when Jefus had made an end of commanding his twelve difciples, he departed thence to teach and to preach in their cities.

2 Now when John had heard in the prifon the works of Chrift, he fent two of his difciples,

3 And faid unto him, Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?

Jefus anfwered, and faid unto them, Go and fhew John again those things which ye do hear and fee:

5 The blind receive their fight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleanfed, and the far-deaf hear, the dead are raifed up, and the poor have the go!pel preached to them.

29 Are not two fparrows fold for a thing? And one of them thall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many fparrows.

32 Whofoever therefore fhall confefs me before men, him will I confefs alfo before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whofoever thall deny me before men, him will I alfo deny before my Father which is in heaven.

34 Think not that I am come to fend peace on earth: I came not to fend peace, but a fword.

7 And as they departed, Jefus began to fay unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wildernefs to fee? A reed fhaken with the wind?

8 But what went ye out for to fee? A man clothed in foft raiment ? Behold, they that wear loft clating are in kings'houfes.

11 Verily I fay unto you, Among them that are born of women, there hath not rifen a greater than John the Baptift: notwithstanding, he that is leaft in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

12 And from the days of John the Baptift, until now, the kingdom of heaven fuffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

13 For all the prophets and the law prophefied until John.

14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

15 He that hath ears to hear, let himhear. 16 But, Whereunto hall I liken this generation It is like unto children fitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, 17 And faying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourn ed unto you, and ye have not lamented. 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they fay, Behold, a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and finners. But wifdom is juftified of her children.

20 Then began he to upbraid the cities wherein molt of his mighty works were done, because they repented not :

21 Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethfaida! for if the mighty works, which were done in you, had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in fackcloth and afhes.

22 But I fay unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the day of judgment, than for you.

23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, fhall be brought down to hell for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day.

24 But I fay unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.

25 ¶ At that time Jefus anfwered, and faid, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou haft hid thefe things from the wife and prudent, and haft revealed them unto babes.

The difciples pluck the ears of corn ex

Holy Groft fball not be forgiven.

AT that time Jefus went on the fab. bath day through the corn; and his difciples were an hungered, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.

2 But when the Pharifees faw it, they faid unto him, Behold, thy difciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the fabbath day.

3 But he faid unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was an hungered, and they that were with him;

4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the fhew bread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?

5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the fabbath days the priests in the temple profane the fabbath, and are blameless?

6 But I fay unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.

7 But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not facrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltlefs.

8 For the Son of Man is Lord even of the fabbath day.

9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their fynagogue:

10 And, behold, there was a man which had bis hand withered. And they asked him, faying, Is it lawful to heal on the fabbath days that they might accufe him.

11 And he faid unto them, What man fhall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the fabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out ?

12 How much then is a man better than a fheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the fabbath days.

13 Then faith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

14 Then the Pharifees went out, and held a counfel against him, how they might destroy him.

15 But when Jefus knew it, he withdrew himfelf from thence and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;

16 And charged them that they should not make him known:

27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, fave the Son, and be to whomfoever the Son will reveal him. 28 Come unto me,all ye that labour and 17 That it might be fulfilled which was are heavy laden, and I will give you reft.spoken by Elaias the prophet, faying, 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye thall find rest unto your fouls.

22 Then was brought unto him one poffeffed with a devil, blind, and dumb : and he healed him, infomuch that the blind and dumb both fpake and faw.

23 And all the people were amazed, and faid, Is not this the fon of David ? 24 But when the Pharifees heard it, they faid, This fellow doth not caft out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. 25 And Jefus knew their thoughts, and faid unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to defolation; and every city or houfe divided againft itfelf fhall not stand:

26 And if Satan caft out Satan, he is divided against himself; How shall then his kingdom ftand?

27 And if! by Beelzebub caft out devils, By whom do your children caft them out Therefore they shall be your judges.

28 But if I caft out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me fcattereth abroad.

39 But he antwered, and faid unte them, An evil and adulterous generation feeketh after a fign; and there shall no fign be given to it, but the fign of the prophet Jonas:

:

40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly fo thall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

41 The men of Nineveh fhall rife in judgment with this generation, and thail condemn it because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

:

42 The queen of the fouth fhall rife up in the judgment with this generation, and fhall condemn it: for he came from the uttermoft parts of the earth to hear the wifdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

48 When the unclean fpirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, feeking rest, and findeth none.

45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself feven other fpirits more wicked than himfelf, and they enter in, and dwell there: and the latt fate of that man is worfe than the firft. Even fo fhall it be alfo unto this wicked generation.

23 But he that received feed into the good ground, is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which alfo beareth fruit, and bringeth forth fome an hundred fold, fome fixty, fome thirty.

24¶Another parable put he forth unto them, faying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which fowed good feed in his field:

25 But while men flept, his enemy came and fowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

25 But when the blade was fprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares alfo.

27 So the fervants of the householder came and faid unto him, Sir, Didit not thou fow good feed in thy field? From whence then hath it tares ?

28 He faid unto them, An enemy hath done this. The fervants faid unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he faid, Nay; left while ye gather up the tares, ye root up alfo the wheat with them.

18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the fower.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and underftandeth i not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was fown in his heart. This is he which received feed by the way fide.

20 But he that received the feed into ftony places, the fame is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while for when tribulation or perfecution arifeth becaufe of the word, by and by he is offended.

22 He alfo that received feed among the thorns, is he that heareth the word;

31 Another parable put he forth unto them; faying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of muftard feed, which a man took, and fowed in his field:

82 Which indeed is the least of all feeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, to that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

35 Another parable fpake he unto them, The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

54 All these things fpake Jefus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable fpake he not unto them:

35 That it might be fulfilled which was fpoken by the prophet, faying, I will open my mouth in parables: I will utter things which have been kept fecret from the foundation of the world.

36 Then Jefus fent the multitude away, and went into the houfe: and his difciples came unto him, faying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field.

37 He anfwered and faid unto them, He that foweth the good feed is the Son of Man;
